Are still images to tape capture field sequential?

Does anyone know if camcorders that do stills to DV tape capture the image field sequential or grab the entire frame at once?

I know that If the two fields are very close during normal video it compresses the image different than when the fields are different.

So if I am moving the camcorder while I am snapping a still will I get the better compression algorithm?

I don't understand your second sentence. DV is a set size per frame. If it's interlaced, it's interlaced, period.

Taking a picture to tape is done by grabbing both fields then recording them for a little while. Will you get jaggies? yes.

You are taking an interlaced image, not progressive.

In addition, "shutter" speed is far less with film than a memory card.

In the second sentence I was refering to the compression method the camcorder uses.

But you gave me the info I needed. I will just have to use a tripod.

Compression isn't any different. Your camcorder is taking 2 fields and recording them repeatedly for a period of time.

The topic at this url claims that DV has an 'adaptive interfield compression', when field the two fields of the frame have little difference. I have not been able to come up with a way to prove that my camcorder actually does this.
