Hi,

I'm wanting to build a HTPC that I can store my Divx/XVid files and MP3's on and also to have TiVo capabilities and record programs it thinks I will like.
Does anyone have any info on parts, which are good/bad, what software I would need etc.
I want a good case that can blend in with the rest of my audio equipment.A video card that will do everything I need it to.Remote control. A very large hard drive (250gb) or multiple medium size (120gb)anyone know any good makes for divx/vid/mp3 etc.

I have been troweling the internet for the parts to build it and have found alot of info such as the ATI all-in-wonder 9800pro (which I cannot find for sale in the UK) and some expensive cases.

Any info/thoughts/links/advice from anyone would be very appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Derek

Hi there

Ive been lurking in these forums (many thanks for all the help) for the past 8 months now so i think its time to do my bit to help others

Ive been building a HTPC over the last few months, and the best sites ive found on the web are as follows.

http://myhtpc.net a fantastic piece of HTPC frontend software, for browsing files playing mp3s etc and is also user customisable, good forum as well.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb a great forum for the build of low end - high end hometheatre pcs,de-scalers etc.

The ati card you have specced out is an excellent bit of kit, i am using a plain old AIW Radeon 32ddr, captures tv great, excellent harware accelerated mpeg decoder, a shuttle XPC with an athlon 1700xp, 256mb ram and a 60 gig silent seagate drive.

Kind regards and i hope i havn't broken any rules with this post
