Japanese DV format ??!

A friend of mine borrow me his camcorder, a japanese Sony DCR PC3 (perhaps in LP mode). Back at home, I played it on TV using my camcorder (European Sony DCR PC6e) without any problem, but when I tried to transfer the movie to my PC using my cam, all i could get is a crypted movie, everything I tried ended with the same result (and I tried with many softwares on PC and MAC).

Today I have 3 hours of film that I can't get out of the tapes... :-S

You are trying to read PAL from a device that is NTSC or vice versa when you see that junk. It is possible to read/write either type from most camcorders but only with custom software. Usually, the camcorder sends an ID to the computer stating the format. No, I can't direct you to software but I have done the extraction. Some people have good results by starting to play the tape in the camcorder then connecting it to the computer.

It works perfectly... Strange but for NTSC on PAL I have to start the camcorder before capturing...
