I have been reading on discussion about how many passes a god rip should have. But I dont think I understand the basic, of how to use this feature......
1. When I put up a job(rip) with Gknot, and select the multipass and 2 passes(preselected), and starts the ripping, does Gknot enkode the movie to times?
2. And if I am not satisfied with the outcome, would the quality be better if I did the same over again? Would it then be four passes?
3. Also a question about the vbr mp3 sound track; in the encoding control panel -transcoding parameters, there are some new surround mp3 (light, normal, heavy) settings, will these give better performanse if I have Creative surround on my computer -6.1 channel Inspire6700?
Thanks for any enlightment on this......;)
I use Gknot 0.28.5

you should always do at least two passes, the first is only for analysis. The new codec features slow down the encoding much so unless you have a 10 GH CPU you probably don't do more than two passes

correct. it'll do that automatic... On the number of passes though: at least three should be done if you using multipass mode of divx5(the one GK selects by default). Two will only do if you use original two pass mode (if you don't know what it is, then forget about this option :) )
personally I like doing 4 passes...
P.S. about audio: I don't think mp3 is really designed for surround sound, so if you want proper playback on your 6.1 system stick to the ac3 soundtrack.

he is a newbie dont confuse him with ogg or aac
My advice is stick to the original AC3 file on the dvd that way u lose no quality and u get the best sound without too much effort

Oh and i dont bother with 4 passes i do 2 using original method they seem to be just as good and take half the time than doing 4 on the multipass method

Thanks for the replays folks..
Seems to me that there is some different opinion, about x passes!!!!
Ok... so to use the old 2-passes funktion, I had to adjust the Divx codec settings in Gknot Encoding control panel... First Pass= Orginal 1-pass, & Nth pass=Orginal 2-pass,2nd pass.... is this correct??
Another thing I wounder about is this; if I load a encoding in Gknot and let it finish, with poor results, if I then load the same project and runn it again with new settings, will the previous encoding be at any help for the quality of the new encoding...
hope you understand what I mean..;)

yes, but be aware that if you press setting button again then passes will be reset to mutipass (which GK uses by default)
