I don't know if I could be much help 'cause I've only been playing with linux for a couple of months now. I continue to use window$ to do all video editing and DVD backup.

but I did want to mention acidrip (http://sourceforge.net/projects/acidrip/) -- I did a search and had seen that no one had ever said anything about it. I don't know how well it works (or if it even works at all) 'cause like I said, I continue to use window$ for this type of thing. But I would would eventually like to use linux exclusively and digital video is the last thing I have left to find a solution for.

I think that you guys are taking on a noble cause. I'm willing to help test stuff and gather info for your project. (linux A/V FAQ)

--good luck

btw-I'm using RHL 9

I've never tried acidrip, and all I know about it is that it is a GUI for mencoder (which I use without a GUI).

If you want to try it, I'd have a look at the fedora project (http://fedora.mplug.org/). There you will find a repository with lots of AV-stuff like mplayer/mencoder, XviD, transcode and also acidrip.

I've tried fedora with RH9 and it worked like a charm.
