hiya

lately I've been putting movies from dvds and avis onto dvd-r,
some of those avis have had ac3 as the audio format, so deciding to keep them, and seeing as dvd2svcd has no option to keep the orig audio format when avi mode is active, I generally later after conversion swap the mp2 file for the original ac3 file extracted from the wav (sometimes having to reencode the ac3 file to ac3 again in AC3Machine to make it valid for maestro). MPEG5.1 is it really a different format to ac3...and if so, is there much difference in the quality, and would it be as compatable on dvd-r and in dvd maestro like ac3 is. I expect there will probably be some sort of loss on it perhaps to keeping the original ac3, but sometimes it can be a pain trying to keep the files at a size that will fit the discs when I have to manually seperate the ac3.

cheers,
Tuck

Give the search button a workout, there are some really good threads explaining how to use DVD2SVCD to produce the elements for DVD-R

Forget about MPEG5.1 it's pretty well unsupported, at best your DVD player or amplifier decoder will convert it to stereo.

You can select use source audio, at least for DVD anyway (see above seaching suggestion).
