divx playback/cd-rom speed

man, i've killed quite a few disc drives in my day, i've always thought playing burnt divx flicks is bad for my drive cause it spins so fast all the time. i thought it might be due to interleaving audio every 1 frame which causes the disc to spin so fast on playback..i mean it could read the disc 20 times in the time it takes to play it once. anyone know how to create an avi that doesn't cause this problem?

man, change drive for some normal brand or playback from harddisk.

It has nothing with interleave.

You can use a little nifty Nero DriveSpeed (http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroDriveSpeed_200.zip) utility for controlling your CD\DVD drive spin rotation speed, works like a champ; I am using it for lowering down my really noisy X52 Teac burner reading speed (X8 is enough IMO ) try it , you'll love it I promise. ;)

how do you know what brand of drives i've had? and if i'm burning divx to cd, i obviously don't want to keep them on my hd..

I saw couple times problem what you have. Such drives are just unintelligent and can't adapt speed according to data flow.

Of course, I didn't think that you store all your material on hard drive, just to copy to hard disk in couple minutes and play from it.
After watching you need just couple move with mouse to release space...
