Just Terrible Speeds, someone help !!!

Hi, i just built my new p4 rig, consisting of
1.2.4c 800mhz processor w/ hyperthreading overclocked to 3.0ghz
2.asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard
3.1 stick of 512mb corsair ram

And, im just getting terrible speeds, using docce4u, reauthorist etc, i get only about 1.5x real time and the same thing when i dont use docce4u, and just use cce 2.50 alone. Im encoding ntsc dvds. I got over 2.3 with my athlon, and someone posted he was gettin 3.5 realtime with his 3.4ghz overclocked p4, so i dont understand how my speeds can be so slow, damn, i mean, like a 2200 athlon can get 1.5 in cce so somethings really wrong here.

a 1.5x speed with such a configuration is indeed quite slow. i get around 1.8x with my 2.533b p4 on an i845pe.
but did you try without overclocking? probably the ocing does more harm then good in this special case. and cce is quite sensitive to changes.
another thing about your system is ram. since the p4p800 is an i865pe (i think), it is a dual-channel-chipset. so you should always use two sticks of ram in such a board, otherwise the performance will drop significantly. with only 1 stick of ram you can only use half the bandwith the p4 provides. so go buy another of those corsair (although i think they're way too overpriced, kingston hyperx is hardly any worse and costs much less).

Also, make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Make sure you're not comparing the fastest speed on your old system with the slowest speed on the new one.

I get anywhere from 0.9 to 1.9 on my 2.26 GHz P4 depending on the filters that DIF4U puts into the .avs file. As good as decomb is, IVTC and de-interlace really slow down encoding.

jackjohnson24 - Hi - these may well be real-world PIV performance figures for encoding at genuine DVD-bitrates using CCE v 2.5x: it's the later versions of CCE have serious PIV optimisations.

If you're using a recent mpeg2dec3; try "idct=5" - should allow SSE2 optimisations.

Ok, i'll try a later version. Ive been tryin like 2.66 but it wont run, when i open it, it shows up in my toolbar, but i can maximize it, just stays in the toolbar. It worked once, but thats it.

Right-click on the taskbar item and select "Move". Use the cursor keys to move the CCE window into view. Or open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Custom Technology\CCE SP Trial Version in RegEdit and delete the "list1 pos" values.

Wow...I was thinking about getting an Abit IC-7 and a 2400c P-4...almost $300.00. I think I will stay with my Epox 8rda+ and XP2500 OC'ed to 2200 MHz (200x11) that I am getting 2.35 - 2.55 RT with depending on the movie and bit rate.

Doing that step will definitely fix the issue of 2.66 staying in your taskbar.
