Heres some things that would be helpful in the next release of this usefull tool.

Although i dont ever encode using GK.. i DO use it to make my scripts for frameserving, to encode the mp3 track, AND to figure out how much i can push the bitrates up.

OK so here's my suggestions

1> Make a multi part encode possible
(I like to encode intro of a movie/dvd (like all the stuff up
to the start of the movie or the main title or whatever at a
lower bitrate than the main guts of the movie)--this allows
more for the main movie (it may only allow 5-30kbps more but
somtimes that is a big difference for some scenes)

1b> make this option two pass.. two passes always tend towards
better Quality and size constraints.

(a whole new interface may need to be made for this I dont know...)
Also, make an easy option to REDO the encode for one of these
So that you can shrink the size if need be to fit the target.

2> (this one would work well with the above) Make a PAUSE to mux
the video track/s and the audio track/s together so that the
can check the target size and make their own adjustments to
the bitrates etc.

3> Try to add MORE of the new AVI SYTH scripts to the GUI... maybe if
some of them wont work well with gordian make the option for some-
one to use the created avs file OUTSIDE the prog. (there are a lot
of scripts id like to try, but im just not smart enough to script
the avs file myself for some reason, and im sure a lot of others
are in the same boat with me on this. We would love to be able
to work with some of the newer scripts also. Maybe a GUI to input
how gordian knot should input the filter so you could add anything
that had a decent set of instructions.... I.E. it some filters
say like to load the filter do this.. then to use do this...(may-
be this be too complex)

4> I LOVE the fact i can add scripts to the mp3 encode and it will
REMEMBER THEM!!!! without me doing anything. KEEP THIS FEATURE.

5> Last one.. Make it possible to TRIM part of a movie off in the
Finaly mux of the movie. Somtimes i dont need ALL the credits
or ALL of the intro. and it will take off the amount to fit on
one CDR. Ive found that the more you stream copy a movie, the
bigger the chance that something will get messed up or corrupted
sometimes, so if you could set this feature that be REAL cool.

Hi-

1>Use the Trim command to make .avs's for the opening credits, the main movie, and the end credits. If you use XviD, they have a separate tab where you fill in the frame numbers to encode both the opening and the end credits at higher quants.

1b>If you make separate .avs's for the opening and end credits you can easily run 2 passes on them. And you can run the second pass as many times as you like to get the size you want.

2>I thought you said that you didn't encode through GKnot. So what does that suggestion have to do with GKnot? If you encode the credits first, and then fill in the file sizes in the Bitrate Tab of GKnot (along with the Audio size and the overhead, and the adjusted main movie length), then you'll have the bitrate of the movie.

3>You want even more options for the .avs? In my opinion it has more than enough already. There's nothing to prevent you from editing the .avs either before or after saving it. It's about time you learned your way around AviSynth. Here are the filters built into AviSynth:

http://www.avisynth.org/index.php?page=FiltersByCategory

Here are most of the 3rd party filters:

5>It's already easy to trim off part of the movie. That's what the Trim command is for. But I don't approve of cutting out parts of the movie. If you encode those credits at high quants they don't take up much space anyway.

But maybe the developer(s) have their own opinions of your requests.

well most of these suggestions are for people who use gordian knot all the way from start to finish...

I am learning how to change the avs script files... somewhat..
And i like to use virtual dub jobs to set up all the slices of the movie.. I even know how to make changes to those jobs if what i did is not acceptable.. so that i only have to do a 1st pass once...

I am just making these suggestions for later releases of gordian,if that happens, for the newbies who wont orcant learn to do it on their own..

1) quite complicated feature for divx encoding. But since XviD does have starting credits option it'll be easier to implement that...

2) pause will never be implemented (I hope) since all recalculations should be done automatically by GK

3) flexible filter support is a requests at SF already

5) that one is problematic due to the audio cutting. Anyone knows how to trim audio in besweet ? (also SF request)

hm the avisynth script can already be changed by hand (for example it is possbible to add the trim option already)

imho no need to blow up the gui with stuff newbies will hardly need and the pros can already do what they like in gknot...

To be able to set defaults for the IVTC parts of the script..

Im having to manually add order=0 to everything I encode now with the new DECOMB5.

If theres a way, please let me know.....

Cheers and sorry for the nagging....

when GK is shipped with decomb version 5 it'll do that automatically...
