Hi guys sorry to bother you all but I am stuck

I am new to dvd backups and so far have not had a great deal of success.

The problem is when veiwing a DVD on standalone Toshiba 220e player
any DVDS that I have backed up using Intstant Copy (latest version) they play fine for the majority of the film however during the last ten minutes of the dvd suddenly blocky squares appear and these progressively get worse and then the dvd just freezes. This only happens with Instant Copy. By the way The dvd also seems to play fine in my PC using POWERDVD 5.

I have used DVDXCOPY and the dvds play fine all the way through (using the same DVD-RS)

I am using DataWrite (red tops) DVD-Rs and using the DVD-R profile in Instant Copy on its default settings #(taking out all extra audio streams and subtitles)

The DVD-Writer is a Pioneer 105 running under Xp.

I have read in the forums that running NAV can cause trouble so gonna try and disable that and burn again (another 2hrs waiting)

I am completely stuck can anyone offer any pointers

Many thanks

I think Ive just found the answer

On a DVDRW which I practiced on using the exact same process as on the DVDR (except for the setting in Instant Copy)

I have just checked and the DVDRW plays fine all the way throuh till the end of the disc

Thanks anyway guys

Sounds like cheap/poor DVD-R media that has problems near the end of the disc - you would have to use a smaller total size for that media. Your DVD-RW disc must have been higher quality at the end of the disc.

I had the same problem, and did 3 things and can't tell you which one was the one that fixed it, but it does not happen anymore.

1st - Ran the recorder update from Pinnacles site.
2nd - I updated the firmware of my drive (A Dell badged NEC 1100 +RW)
3rd - I now burn using DVDDecrytor instead of using IC. DVDDecryptors ISO write mode will do .PDI files as well as normal .ISO's

One thing of note was that the two BAD disks I did before these changes will almost play perfectly in my JVC 7-DVD changer(some blocking but never froze), but had major problems in My Apex 703, Sony PS2 and even in my computer using PowerDVD and either my NEC 1100+rw or my Liteon LTD163 drive. The Sony would abort playback and say the disk was not Valid and PowerDVD and the Apex would just Freeze and require a reboot.
Both BAD disks were Verbatim 4X DVD+R disks. Since the changes I have used both Verbatim 2x and 4X +R disks without incident. Also 2X +RW's for tests.
Oh and the 1 +rw I had done prior to the updates had worked fine.
I assumed it was the firmware update that had fixed it, but your using a different drive so maybe it was 1 or 3.

Regarding good versus bad discs:

If you have a suspicion along these lines, download Nero CD Speed v2.02 from here:

http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html#nerocdspeed

Once you've got it, run it and do this:
1. Pop your burned, suspect disc into a DVD-ROM player (not your burner).
2. Select your DVD-ROM with the disc in it from the drop-down box at the center top of the application.
3. Go to the Extra menu, and select ScanDisc....
4. Check off Surface Scan.
5. Hit Start.

Good discs won't report Damaged or Unreadable areas on the disc. If you get otherwise, you might be using bad media.

I had a batch of bad media once. They'd report Damaged and/or Unreadable using this test. My current media is all in the green...
