FairUse release with DIVX 5 encoding (experimental)

This experimental 0.32 release of FairUse allows for DIVX 5.05 encoding. You'll need a *registered* version of DIVX 5.xx to be able to use it.

please can you explain, in wich fairUse increase quality of Divx5 encoding,
cause if I rember well(IIRW), fairUse was making like 10 div3 encoding (with different parameter) and merging them if one divx only.
But with multi-pass encoding what is the benefit, IIRW fairUse was obsolet after nandub release.

I agree with you, but,

IMHO FairUse is the most user-friendly ripping software ever. Its "wizard" interface make it *very easy* to use, even easier than robot4rip/GKnot (at least in my opinion), and has some very nice features when it comes to insert subtitles (preview, ...).

I always thought that the last release of FU (0.31) had two major drawbacks, which kept me away from it :

1. it was only able to do DIVX3 encoding
2. it was slow as hell (because of the "ten encodings" and diff. calculations)

So, what I did is simply replace the 10 DIVX3 encodings by a "simple" two-pass DIVX5 encoding (no more 10 encodings needed to match target size, better visual quality, faster than the original FU encodings).

My main goal was to bring together the FU ease of use and the quality and speed of DIVX 5 (and probably XVID if there is enough demand about it).

Works perfect so far, tried 2 DVDs with it.
Its so damned easy that theres nothing more i can say about it... :)

xvid would be great, but i just wanna say thanks for this, i loved fu, and still use it, even though it's slow as hell :)

i'll be using this for now though, until you get the xvid up and running.

i'd say i'd help but i can't really do anything but test it, so if you're needing people to help with that, gimme a holler. :)

XVID encoding is nearly fully implemented, but I'm experiencing hangs during some frame compression (that does not occur with DIVX5), and any help would be highly welcome :)

any chance of you implementing chapter ripping? like for dvds with separate episodes that are in one vobset? that'd be magic.

The problem is in DivXCompressor::Compress when using XVID encoding.

Chapter ripping should be possible, but would require me to acquire some knowledge about DVD structure. This might be a future feature, but I first want it to work fine before adding new features.

FairUse 0.32r3 has a chapter drop-down list which allows to place the cursor at the beginning/end of a given chapter, making it easy to select a range based on chapters.

aah, you still have to cache the whole vobset. NOT complaining at all, but it'd be better/easier (for us at least, not for you! ;)) if we could cache just the chapter/whatever.

IMHO the current way it works allows for more flexibility, since one can choose either to keep intro/ending or not.

I'm currently working on sound transcoding and muxing, a release might come soon...

annoying to have to cache 4 gigs of stuff for only 800mb of "needed" material though.

how's the xvid build getting along? I ain't had time to look into compiling it, i've been working/out the house for easily 12hrs a day for weeks now. barely got time to prowl the boards etc. just that i'd prefer fu-xvid to fu with muxing etc. whatever's better for you though, i'm just glad someone's sticking with it.

how about an option to do no resizing at all? just skip the resizing/cropping screen altogether, and keep the video at 720*576 or whatever?

Concerning XVID encoding, all the code is there and is shared with DIVX5, but xvid.dll hangs during encoding for some reason I wasn't able to determine. I'll leave this disabled until somebody finds out what's happening.

About resizing skipping, I don't feel it's a real pain to go through these two screens, is it ? Anyway, FU now is an open source project ;)
