My XviD setting for low/high bitrate anime

I always to use this two parameter to compress my anime for low/high bitrate.Quality isn't good/bad and encoding time about 3 hours.If my setting wasn"t good,would give me advise ??

Hi, i use Koepis latest Xvid version too.
I think for your high bitrate settings, you should use the h.263 quant matrix too, cause for anime stuff the mpeg matrix doesnt help much.

here are my settings for high quali animes, maybe you want to give them a try:

first press "load defaults" in the xvid settings :D

1-pass:
motion search precision: 6 - Ultra High
Quant Type: h.263
FourCC: XVID
VHQ: 1
Qpel: on
use chroma motion: on

Bframes:
max B-frames: 3
B-frame quant: 125
B-frame quantoff: 75
B-frame threshold: 0

all other options that are not mentioned, are default-settings.

2-pass:

Min I-quant: 2
Max I-quant: 6
Min P-quant: 2

High bitrate scenes: 0%

Alt.Curve Tab:
Use Alternative curve system: off

all other options that are not mentioned, are default-settings.

iam using some filters, like convolution3D and Undot, to get a better
compression.
after the first-pass i open the stats file of the movie and check if the size has +- 10% of the desired size, if this is not the case i lower/increase my filter settings and the bframe settings:
for example if the size is too big i try "B-frame quant: 175, B-frame quantoff: 100,B-frame threshold: 25", is it too small i try "B-frame quant: 100, B-frame quantoff: 75,B-frame threshold: -25".

you have to vary the settings for every anime you encode, cause no anime has the same settings.

i hope this helps you a little bit, if someone has additions and/or an advise for some changes in my settings plz let me know.:)

Hmmm, I do not understand why you guys cap quants. Unless xvid's rate control makes a mistake on a certain part of the video it is not necessary to cap the quants. For more information read: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=348517

i know, but this is a little remainder from the good old Divx311 days, its a habit that i couldnt lay down :p , btw you can say its a backup for the case xvid has a strange failure in its rate control(i know this wont happen anymore).... cause you know its still called unstable version.

YY1020 are you getting better results with alt. curve comp. than with the regular one?

I'm having slightly better results at low bitrates with:

Alt.Curve
Curve aggression=High
High distance from average=150
Low distance from average=100

Average Q is higher, but the clip just looks better. I used to cap the quantizers but it seems rather pointless with B frames at 150%+75%

Oh blimey, I must have hit the "new thread" by mistake. This was supposed to go to My XviD setting for low/high bitrate anime. I would be very glad if some moderator were to fix it.

anime looks bad without capped quants - look at a extremely high motion scene (for example the OP of gate keepers when the title is shown). If it's a hard-to-compress show, then xvid rc will assign it a high q in the second pass and without a cap it will macroblock itself to death. Very, very ugly.

I recommend against using trellis if you are hardsubbing, all sort of problems.

And, personally, I use bf 2/133/100/0 for anything anime. You may not notice them, but bf macroblocks are very visible to me.

Yes i'm.But i didn't know much in alt.curve ,so i tested more different parameter that could give me a good results in my high bitrate setting!!May be i will modify some value and close the alt.curve comp to test again.

Quantization Tab:
Min I-quant: 2
Max I-quant: 6
Min P-quant: 2
Max P-quant: 16

If the bitrate was higher,i would use default value in Quantization Tab.However,it is unnecessary to reduce.But,if the bitrate was lower,i would reduce Max I-quant/Max P-quant to get the best quality and Min I-quant/Min P-quant always in default value.(About2,6,2,6 or 2,4,2,6)And i always use 2,6,2,6 could get a good results in low bitrate!!
