View Full Version : Bad frames in CCE output

When using CCE to encode, I get some bad frames in the output (they look like when a VCD is scratched and you get pink macroblocks). These are not present in the source, and this is from a file from hard disc that has not been burned to CD.

CCE generated no errors, and this seems to occurr regardless of settings used (CBR, mulitpass VBR, SVCD res, DVD res, avi source, DVD source, etc..).

Is this due to system instability? CCE does not crash at all and my computer is completely stable for everything else (all other video/audio encoding, Folding, SETI, etc...). Scan disc reports no errors on the hard disc.

Is this a known problem?

Make sure "Restrict auto I frame insertion" and "Close all GOPs" is unchecked.

Yup, they were both unchecked (I'm using the default SVCD settings from DVD2SVCD by the way, but I posted in this forum because it seems to be a CCE issue rather than a DVD2SVCD one).

I'll try this using TMPGEnc to make sure the fault does indeed lie with CCE.

Are they always in the same spot, same frame? Check if they show up in the AVS with VirtualDub. Possible "hard disk scratch"?

I haven't done multiple encodes of the same file from hard disc, however these errors have occurred on several different encodes from different files. Also, these files have been freshly ripped from DVD, so they have not been around very long on the hard disc to get corrupted.

I'll run some more tests to see if I can narrow it down, thanks.

I was thinking on a falilure of the output file...

Just thought... Another posibility is maybe a filter is ill-behaving, like outputting out of range or something. If it always happens on the same frame, you can isolate the filters to check in VDub.
