Hello All!

Does anyone know if there is a minimum video bitrate mentioned
in the DVD-Video specs ?

I ask because I'm currently authoring a Video DVD with mainly
music. The ac3 encoded audio stream is multiplexed with a very
low bitrate video (which was encoded from a still image with
TMPGenc) in order to fit as many hours of audio as possible
on the DVD. Unfortunately the DVD when played on a standalone
Player sometimes has drop outs (I suppose because of the low
video bitrate of 60kbps - 352x288 resolution).

I know it would be possible to use a slide show with underlying
music, but then it wouldn't be possible to "fast forward" or jump
to a specific chapter. The music is a long live recording, so the
short pause between two PGCs (emulating the chapters) is not
acceptable! Or is it possible for two cells in different PGCs of
the same title to be "seamless" ?

Second question:

Would it be possible to use a slide show with music and at the same
time have something like chapters without the annoying pause between
them ?

Any hints greatly appreciated!

PS: I'm using Scenarist.

hi,
just a few ideas:
1) iirc there's no minimum bitrate in the dvd specs. i've done several dummy PGCs that just contain 100 frames at an equally ultra low br and haven't had any problems playing them. (not that there was anything to see, but that you would be redirected to the menu without any problems.

2) honestly, i do not know for sure, but it might be, that your resolution is not valid. have you tried using the regular 720x576/480 res?

3) iirc you cannot connect two PGCs seamlessly

4) have you ever had a closer look at creating an audio DVD. iirc those are not supported by _all_ DVD players, but that is something you can check on www.dvdrhelp.com - anyway, i've never created one of these so i have no idea how and if this is possible utilizing home user apps.

hope this helps a bit

depending on who you ask, SIF (also refered to as 1/4-D1) is only valid for DVD spec when used with MPEG-1. http://www9.brinkster.com/sportschook/?dvdvcd.gif

most players should play SIF in mpeg2, but some authoring systems may reject the streams.
