Determining field dominance in c++

It is possible to determine the field dominance of a PAL clip from a C++ program using avisynth?

AFAIK all methods of determing field domininance require the use of a mark I eyeball.

You could maybe try out your algorthim by writing an Avisynth plugin first - then if it works we could all feel the benefit :)
