Cut faulty part from movie & sound is still out of synch

I had a faulty part in a movie which made the sound after it go out of synch so i cut out the faulty part with virtual dub but the sound is still out of synch.Is there a way to fix it so i remove the bad part and also have the sound in synch with the movie? there are 2 i have which have faulty parts 1 is avi and the other mpg i tried the mpg file in tmpge and the same thing happened.All i want is the sound not to be out of synch because of a split second faulty part in a movie.Is it possible to do.
