Suddenly my windows media player stopped playing SVCD I burned. Running Media Player 9 series under XP pro. Reinstalled it but no avail. Tried a couple of other players and none of them play. My Apex plays these SVCD fine. Must be something wrong with windows. What could it be? ANy idea? Thanks

sounds like a missing MPEG-2 codec

installing PowerDVD or some other mpeg2 application should do the trick just fine :)

The one I found here:
http://www.divxmovies.com/software/

Media Player 9 played SVCD just fine before this week. Then it keeps giving me the messgae like "media player has had a problem and must be shut down...".

I reinstalled the powerdvd and powerdvd can play svcd fine now. But media player still refuse to play SVCD. I thought the mpeg2 codec for windows XP is corrupted, and installing powerdvd won't fix it. So I downloaded the so called svcd codec from the above site, but obviously it doesn't help at all.

Will this overwrite WMP9? I think if I can get rid of WMP9 from my windows xp, and do a clean installation of wmp9, it will come back to normal like before.

Forget it. It didn't solve the problem. I think I am just going to stick with powerdvd from now on.

I tried that link several times but never got through. Does anyone know a way to do a clean installation of WMP9 without reinstalling Win XP?

Still no go with IE. Installed Opera once but it was a disaster, did not work out for me.

I still cannot play SVCD from WMP9. PowerDVD plays SVCD on my PC fine right now, but installing it did not fix the problem with WMP9.

What is worse now is, whenever I browse to a folder that has SVCD type MPEG2 files, my windows explorer just crushes. Not only WMP9 cannot play MPEG2 video files, but also Windows crushes on browsing MPEG2 files. This is really annoying. I cannot do any operation on folders with MPEG2 video files!

Why is Windows so dumb! Anyone has idea how to fix it?
