Divx on 2 Cds => ffdshow settings

Hello all,

I always rip my DVD on 2 CDs in order to get the best quality...

I read my divx with The Core Media Player, and with ffdshow

I would like to know what settings should I use for ffdshow

I guess that with such a quality (bitrate around 1300-1500) I shouldn't use to much filters... That's why I just active the sharpen filter, and the best one: asharp

But I can't fine good values for its three parameters, because I don't know their aim...

Could you help me?

For good quality rips you should probably disable post-processing, it's good for low quality vids but tends to blur high quality ones. I generally use a noise filter because I like the effect, usually the old one with a setting around 15. I haven't really used asharp, I generally use unsharp mask with a setting around 20-40.
Ultimately you'll just have to experiment to find what you like best on your setup because there's factors like whether your using a monitor or tv and how they're hooked up and also different videos will likely need different settings.
Try doing a search on asharp, you should be able to find plenty of info. It'll probably be related to the filters use pre-encoding but the settings should be largely the same.

There's a lot of great filters to use in ffdshow to improve low bitrate files, but for high quality, the best (and least known) trick is to use the resize option. Resize to some resolution beyond your desktop resolution and put the luma and chroma sharpen all the way up. It's by far the most natural sharpening effect you can achieve (the higher the resolution the better), but it's a real killer on cpu.
