5.1 surround question...can my hardware do it

I've got a basic Soundblaster Live sound card. From audio out on that I have an RCA converter and that plugs into my stereo receiver. Will this work for getting true 5.1 surround from my video on the computer?

Any info would be great.

Unless you mistyped, a stereo receiver won't play 5.1 no matter what you pipe into it, sorry. If you did mistype and your receiver can playback AC3/DTS, it could work if you're using the S/PDIF output (if your card has it). You'll know if it's 'true' surround sound, every amp i've ever seen has some kind of Dolby Digital/DTS indicator light. Please read the AC3 FAQ and audio FAQ stickies in this forum.
