View Full Version : Ligos codec playback problems

I'm not sure this is the right place for this, but I'll ask anyway.

For the longest time I've had problems playing MPEG-1 files on my system. They would play, but starting up (or after advancing forward) the audio was a bit choppy for a few seconds, and I could only play them at original size or in an expanded window, not Full-screen. Attempting to play full screen would result in the video appearing in the upper-left corner at original size for a few seconds, then returning to windowed mode.

Only recently did I discover that my system has been using the Ligos MPEG codec for playback, probably included with some codec pack I installed who knows how long ago. After renaming the 3 associated .ax files to .ax1, it now uses what I'm assuming is the default MPEG-1 codec, and the above issues no longer occur.

My questions are, has anyone else had these problems with Ligos? Is this a known issue with a certain version, or optimizations which don't quite work for an Athlon XP 1800+/ ATI Radeon 8500 / WinXP system? Is using Ligos supposed to have any benefits over the default MPEG-1 codec?
