Okay i did my first 7 hour ripping session yesterday in Gnot... first time in that proggie.

I must admit i'm impressed with the detail of the settings you get there as opposed to say X-Mpeg and such :D

Anyways my problem. The movie is Enemy at the gates (pal region 2).
Everything ripped fine, and got no error (that i can find) during encoding.
And i did get a 729 MB file with sound and such. The quality of the pic looks okay too, BUT thats the problem so to speak.

When i playback the movie it is very choppy, like it cant decide which frame to show.. it's like it's playing multiple frames over each other .. all in all very very unviewable.. and wierd.

Never seen this problem before though...any help would be appriciated. I can even (with some little guidance) clip out a peice of the file and let one of you guys take a look at it...

Here is the log i found:

Playback problems can have many different causes, and can occur without having anything wrong with the encoded file. It could be the player you are using, it could be background tasks, it could be your video driver. (It could even be AVI interleaving, but with MP3 audio, the defaults you used should work fine.)

First ... Try a different AVI player. Microsoft's Windows Media Player 6.4 can be used to determine if it is a player problem, and is more stable than their newer versions. It's included automatically with every version of Windows, but you have to run it manually. Start...Run... and then type in mplayer2 -- this is the same player Gknot uses if you press the "Preview" button on the "Save & Encode" window.

I doubt it's interleaving, but you can check that by playing the ENEMYATTHEGATES_Movie.avi file, which is video only. If it plays smoothly, then you may be having trouble caused by interleaving the audio track...or possibly your conversion to .mp3, which you apparently did outside of Gknot, since you're "just muxing" an .mp3 file.

CPU consumption can be a factor during playback. Shutting off codec post-processing, and eliminating background tasks sometimes helps. A great many people use ffdshow (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters/ffdshow-20021213.exe) for MPEG-4 playback; it's a playback-only codec that can do DivX, XviD, and many other MPEG-4 variants; it often uses less CPU than the standard codecs.

[Looking through the log, all I can see is a low bitrate (637 kbps) with a relatively high resolution (608x256). Your relative quality is a low 0.164 bits/pixels*frames. Doom9 recommends not falling below 0.17 with XviD, but if you're satisfied with the quality, that's fine.]

Thx for the tips...

It's not the player, and i doubt it being codecs or cpu consumption..

I tried ripping a trailer from the same dvd (smaller size quicker results hehe) and it worked out just fine.. wierd huh.
Also the movie didnt work without sound either...

But i'm gonna give it another go now, and see what happens.. perhaps it was some codec setting that i accidently turned on/off hehe :D

Anyways will update later tonight when it's finished in like 7 hours :D
