help: megablocks in divx5.05 movies

I've encoded alot of dvd movies with gk (last versions) and divx 5.05 (and maybe also in prior versions>5), and in many movies I get some parts like half a minute, sometimes more then once in a movie, with a very very low quality video, so each megablock is gigentic (like a picture you might get in a very low res in full screen).. the rest of the movie is very good quality... the problem isn't in the source vobs, I checked the rips and they are ok.
I encode my 1.5-2hr movies in 2cds with ac3.

am I doing something wrong here ?

Turn off GMC, Q-pel, Psychovisual effects, if you're using them. Only use b-frames for the Pro options if you want to avoid any artifacting. From there, check your keyframe interval (I set mine to 240 for 24fps, 300 for 29.97fps); check your scene change threshold --> should be around 40%-50%. You also might want to try doing original 2-pass instead of Nth pass; Nth pass has always led to unpleasing images in my experience, thus I have stuck with the original 2nd pass. Also, this is probably not the issue, but make sure your comp checks are above 60% (I'd sure hope they are when encoding to 2 CDs). I encode my movies the same as you, 2CDs w/ AC3 audio ---> if it were legal, I'd send you some of my encodes to prove my settings work. Good luck.

Also, don't forget.

If you're viewing your encodes on your PC you need to fiddle about with the 'Post Processing Controls' in the DivX 'Decoder Configuration' settings.
