OK, I've been on this for two days now and I can't figure it out so I need your help . Not entirely sure whether this is the right forum, if not, apologies.

Here's what I'm trying to do... I've got a music DVD that I have ripped and encoded into a DivX5 movie file. I am trying to include two (2) audio tracks with the movie, the 5.1 AC3 version and a stereo MP3-VBR version.

Whatever I try to do the result is usually always WMP crashing and sometimes even Zoomplayer crashes. When I mux the video with just the AC3 file it works. When I mux the video with just the MP3 file it works. When I mux the video with the MP3 as the first stream and the AC3 as second -> crash boom bang. When I mux the video with AC3 as the primary stream and MP3 as second, the second stream is white noise althoug the AC3 file is played.

I'm using the tools that came with Gknot 0.28.5, so that's Nandub for the muxing. I have tried AVIMux but to no avail, same result.

I also noticed that with Nandub, if you select the MP3 (VBR) as the primary audio stream and the AC3 as the secondary, it doesn't seem to remember that the second stream is AC3, it says AVI audio in its Secondary Stream menu (maybe this is just a menu thing and internally things are correct but I dunno). If I reverse it (1st: AC3, 2nd: MP3) it does set the menu options correct.

So what could I be doing wrong? I'm starting to think it's not possible at all to mux both an MP3 and AC3 audio stream into one and the same video.

I appreciate your help.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'd recommend trying a modern container format such as OGM or MKV. AVI doesn't have as good of support for multiple audio. And I'd also avoid WMP for playback unless it's mplayer2.exe. Use VdubMod, Mkvmerge, or Oggmux for muxing, there shouldn't be any problems. Remember to install the appropriate playback filters for whatever container you use. If you really need to use avi, I'd recommend using Gabest's Media Player Classic for playback, it has the best build in audio switcher IMHO. hth,

muxing im gknot is done by virtualdubmod (nandub is only needed for divx3 encoding)
try latest vdm (1.5.4.1 from 9th august)!

Gentlemen, it would seem I wasted two days trying to solve a problem that wasn't there. Using Gabest's Media Player Classic I was able to play all my previous movies (that failed with WMP and Zoomplayer). They weren't perfect but using VirtualDubMod instead of Nandub (tnx bond) did the trick and I now have exactly what I want. Thanks very much for the fast response and KpeX, I will look into those other formats and see if they suite me better.
