Im using VirtualDubMod 1.5.1.1a build 1639 (came with Gordian Knot) and trying take off the first 8mb or so of video. I opened it up, direct stream copy, selected the frames I wanted, deleted them, then saved. All green screen in Winamp 2.91. I did it again except this time I did it by key frames. Same thing.. :(

Can anyone tell me why this happens and what I'm doing wrong? Need any more info? I will post that too..

Thanks in advance.

Ok, downloaded the latest version 1.5.4.1 and same thing. I could tell it would do it before I even saved it because it wouldn't show the video from inside VirtualDubMod..

Only in Winamp does it show the completely green video. In BSPlayer and Media Player 9 it shows no video. :(

Then you lack the right codec for the video. The newest VDubMod version can work with video for which you don't have the right codec, but it cant show the video.

Im pretty sure I have the right codec. I can watch the movie if I don't edit it. I used GSpot Codec Information and it said it's DivX 4, OpenDivX. Also says the codec is installed. For my codecs I installed the K-Lite codec pack.

In VDub it shows the video fine, but after I delete that video I don't want, it gets messed up and won't show anymore. :(

Ok, I misunderstood. Are you sure you cut right before a keyframe?

You say I have to go before a keyframe? Does this mean I scan through the video with keyframes to the nearest point and then go one frame back? This would make the keyframe the first frame of the new video I'm trying to encode.. Hmm, lemme see.. Nope didn't work. I almost give up..

Hey Belgabor, thanks a lot for your help. I see you are the only one and I really appreciate it. I wish I could help you too.. :)

Don't give up lightly =)
First lets get the terminology right. If you use 'direct stream copy' you're not encoding, which would mean recompressing the video (which should work fine, regardless if your piece of video starts with a keyframe or not). If you just copy the video which is encoded with a codec using keyframes each segment has to start with a keyframe.

To address your problem (and try to find out whats going wrong):

Check if your result actually starts with a keyframe.
Cut off a piece at the end and see if that works
