Is there a free decent RV9 player(for WIN98) ?

The so called "free" players by REalNetwork (RealOne etc.)
are pieces of crap.
Their "color control" tunning consists only of
"sharpness" and "color saturation",
since the movies on my computer are very dark, these
so called "free players" are _useless_.

Why don't you install ReaOne Player (to get the real dlls) + Gabest's RealMediaSplitter ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ ) ??

With this, you can play RV9 from any directshow player...

I coppied one of these *.ax files to "system" folder
of WIN98, run regscr32. (not the ".ax file in unicode folder
of that splitter distribution).

Then I loaded a RV9 file
(RAM extention) to Media Player Clasic 64.4.9.
At that point the player crashed.

An older version of MediaPlayerClassic still loads
that RV9 ".RAM" file but the FILTERS (in PLAY menue)
is disabled.

I wonder if that splitter is the solution for my problem
(missing decent "colors control") or I did something wrong.

Even *not* using RealOne, you won't get picture control :eek:

Two simple solutions:
-Adjust the overlay properties of your video card
-Adjust the settings of your monitor

If you use DShow in MPC, and FFDSHOW using RAW video support, you will be able to control the picture, but it may crash (did for me).

I omitted to mention that I installed recent version of FFDSHOW.

After my first posting (quoted above) I tried again
to play RV9 file by MediaPlayerClasic, this time with ".RMVB" extention (after I renamed ".RMVB" to ".RMV").
this time I had access to FFDSHOW (via PLAY>>FILTERS menue).
It worked, though not very stable
(sometimes stuck or freez).

I Also could run for a few seconds the ".RAM" files (RV9)
when I renamed the extention ".RAM" to ".RMV").

I don't know about all this stuff, my intuition says
that ".RAM" and ".RMV" are different containers
for the same data. Am I right ?
