Everytime I doubleclick on a video file MPC starts up, CPU goes to 100% and everthing's stuck till I force MPC to close. Happens with older versions than the latest as well. I have tried to disable various settings, without success.
If I open MPC without a file and open a video file manualy SOMETIMES everthing is ok. This happens with mkv and avi files. I didn't test ogm.
I am running WinXP SP1
HELP!! ;)

Helps to know someone else has the problem too ;)
It drives me crazy. Strange thing is I've been using MPC for quite a while and only noticed this problem recently. Happens with higher resolution clips more than with smaller clips. Maybe a memory issue:confused:

More information would help us analyze the problem. How about:
- system specs
- if the problem occurs with all video files or only certain containers(ogm, avi, mkv, etc.)/ codecs
-does the file ever open if you wait long enough?
-is the problem only with MPC ?

I have a Duron 1GHz with 256 MB memory running XP Pro SP1.
But sometimes the video opens fine. So I don't think it's a performance issue. It happens with different containers and different codecs, with or without sound. I couldn't pinpoint it to something specific.
As I said the cpu usage goes up to 100% and nothing happens untill I force it to close.

I'd imagine there must be some pattern to the files. Things like that don't usually happen at random. I'd check if there is any similarity in the content of the files (xvid/divx/type of audio). Ever install any codec packs? Any other background tasks running? If there really isn't a pattern, I doubt your problem can be solved.

if you have regcleaner. in the software tab look for MPC and delete it. i think this may solve it

I tried uninstalling all the codecs and DS filters installed, and the problem is gone now. It seems that the xvid decoders was causing the problem. ffdshow and Nic's decoder causes freezeups at the start, but the decoding filter that comes with the xvid encoding package works fine. This seems strange, because I use ffdshow and Nic's decoder with all other players without problems.
I will do some more testing and report back.
