View Full Version : Can not multiplex files for 1 CD

Hi,

I am a newbie to this. I searched the forum but could not find an answer to this question.
My problem is that bbMPEG always ends up producing 2 files when I want only one to be produced.
I would like to record an entire movie (about 100 Min) to a single 700 MB Cd, but unfortunately bbMPEG always produces 2 files, one is of a size 700 MB and other of 1GB. I specified in bbMPEG maximum file size 797 Mb.
I encoded the movie with bit rate calculated with bitrate calculator according to which the bitrate results to be about 881 for my movie.

Any help how to be to copy entire movie on a single CD would be very welcomed.

Thanks,

Are you using dvd2svcd to produce your film? I am asking because dvd2svcd controls bbmpeg using its own settings file, so your changing it _in_bbmpeg_ would not have the desired effect.
You should be able to mux it manually specifying no cut point.

This isn't a bbmpeg issue. All bbmpeg does is simply mix the encoded audio and video files together. If you get output files which are too big it can only be that the input files were too big, therefore the problem is at the encoding stage not the muxing stage.

Assuming you are using DVD2SVCD to create youe SVCD's (if not then you're at the wrong forum!) there should be no need to use bitrate calculators or suchlike.

In the bitrate tab just set it so anything up to, say 110 mins, goes on 1 CD with the cd size set to 800. Set the AUDIO bitrate pretty low (no higher than 160, we need bitrate available for the picture!) and encode either with TMPG or CCE using multipass VBR. Leave the settings at the bottom of the bitrate tab for max, min and average bitrates well alone. DVD2SVCD does the maths for you!

You should then only end up with one CD.

If you are doing everything by hand (from your post it kinda sounds like you are) then go to http://www.dvd2svcd.org/ and prepare for your life to get a whole lot easier! On the other hand if you are already using this software then read the "mandatory read" sticky on how to make a good post. The more info you post, the easier it is to help.

if your using DVD2SVCD then paste a copy of your dvd2svcd_log.txt file so we can see what is going on.

You're very likely to get poor quality by pursuing this anyway. Heavy filtering is needed and as a newbie you'll probably find this advanced stuff.

Anyway, if you're daredevil (like Ben Affleck :)), take a look a these threads:

But only if you're Daredevil! :D

Otherwise, my recommendation is you to learn DVD2SVCD the usual way (already pointed out by Nick) and do it on 2 discs.

@damsan05:

you're right - this seems to be very strange.
I guess you are not using DVD2SVCD (even if this is a DVD2SVCD-forum - but I don't know too where to post else).
You seem to have every single step done yourself (demuxing, audio-encoding, video-encoding (bitrates calculated with bitrate-calculator) and now muxing with bbmpeg.
When you calculated the bitrate right you just have to select input VS, input AS, give PS a name and set output-size to any value higher than the added up filesize of VS & AS - if they have together 780 MB set it to 900MB for instance, this is no problem as you don't have to set a super exact value.
Don't forget to set 'Forced mux rate' at 'Program stream settings' to zero to let mux-rate determined by bbmpeg.
Maybe you have to set startup-delay too (have a look at the filename of the demuxed audio-stream given by DVD2Avi (I guess you used that)).
To save filesize you have to disable align sequence headers (Program stream settings).
I think you calculated the bitrate too short with bitrate-calculator - you have to give leeway as muxing and authoring needs some kbit too (for instance bbmpeg takes 70,8 kbit/s as overhead) - so you still have to substract some kbit/s of avg-bitrate.
I recommend FitCD (http://shh.dvdboard.de/) to calculate the bitrate - this is the ultimate tool for this purpose - also I don't know bitrate-calculator as I never used it.
At first you have to check if the added up filesize is above 795 MB - if so you have to say goodbye to movie-credit (if it is there) or whatever - you have to cut off some MB to fit to CD-size.

Hi everyone and thanks for answering.

I am trying to make a VCD, not SVCD and I am trying to copy one DVD 4.7GB to a 700 MB CD.
If I leave the Bitrate tab untouched I get video and audio encoded according to DVD2SVCD settings. So my movie is 100 minutes long, I would get it on 2 CDs.
I would like to be able to encode on one single CD the entire DVD. That is why I used bitrate calculator and according to it, I set the bitrate to 818 (in bitrate tab I set max rate, min rate, max avg. and min avg. rate to 818). I also downsampled the audio to 128. So here are the steps I took:
1. I loaded VCD settings to create VCD.
2. I changed the bitrate in bitrate tab to 818
3. I downsampled the audio to 128
4. I encoder it with TMPGenc, Rate Control Mode is CBR, motion search precision is normal
5. No Ripping of subtitles
6. No CD image creating (I will burn a VCD from bbMPEG muxed file output with Record Now)
7. In bbMPEG, in setting tab I put under Multiplexing size options maximum size of 797 MB according to instrucions from doom9

So the result I am getting is one audio encoded file of 189 MB and one Video encoded file of 604 MB. If I add those 2 together they would sum up 700 MB.
But then when bbMPEG does its things with those 2 files, then I get 2 bbMPEG_Muxed_Files one of which is 800 MB and other 1.3 GB. That is my problem.
All the process that DVD2SVCD runs is automatic, I just set the setting before ripping.

I want to get after bbMPEG is done running only one MPEG file of 800 MB so I can burn it on my CD as VCD with Record Now. That one file would fit 1 CD of 700MB.

How do I attach the DVD2SVCD log to this message?

Thanks again everyone for your help. I hope this time I enclosed enough info.

open up dvd2svcd_log.txt in notepad and copy and paste the info into your post reply

I though you could send the file as an attachment......

Why do you keep doing a Crash Recovery ?

damsan05
9th August 2003, 04:23
Program keeps crashing every now and then, the only way to avoid waiting long hours is crash recovery as I understand. Otherwise I would need to do the process all over again and with so much waiting to encode audio and video I really can not.

smiller667

Your problem is that you are doing sth. off-standard (VCD with decreased bitrate for audio and video) and dvd2svcd instructs bbmpeg to mux it in a standard-compliant fashion.
I have never done this, so my recommendations are 100% speculative & other members will certainly have more reliable advice:

Try running bbmpeg manually and set the mux rate to 0 (i.e. auto). Try using tmpgenc's muxer (in mpeg tools) and set it to VCD (non-standard). Burn it in Nero as non-compliant VCD (VCDEasy will autopad). Again, you may succeed in muxing and burning this, but your standalone might not like to play it back as it is non-standard.

Alternatively, encode in a standard-compliant way, chop off the studio logo or some end credits & buy a 99 min CD-R (if your burner and standalone support these).

Use UMXrate to know your correct Mux Rate. you can find it by a search in this forum. Hope it will help you. CYA !

Hi,

I used UMXrate to change mux rate on bbMPEG and it worked well. I was able to get only one muxed file to fit on one CD of 700 MB.
My standalone can play that video CD, but the problem is now that I am getting kind of "interference" when I play that video CD on my standalone. Video is not smooth and some strange squares of different colors keep appearing on the video and distorting the picture.
Is that because of changed mux rate?

Ultimatommax, when you changed your muxed rate, were you having the same problems when you played your video on your standalone?
When I play that muxed file on the PC everything is OK, I do not have any problems with picture quality.

Thanks for your help!
