Software for watching TV on my PC?

I have an ATI AIW 8500DV, and there is that crappy Multimedia Center that i can install to watch TV on my PC. But it is always crashing...

I wish i could have WinVCR but not suitable for Windows XP (only 98 and ME). :angry:

Im looking for another software that can display TV on my monitor.

Any Suggestion?

You may want to check out Dscaler:

The software is excellent and open source, but it's support for AIW is sketchy. There are mixed reports in the forums regarding 8500DV working, but I didn't do a very extensive search, perhaps the issues were resolved.

And unfortunately, no recent vga card with video-in feature includes Brooktree/Conexant chipset. Gx00, Asus Deluxe, ATI All-in-Wonder etc... are thus not supported for video input at the moment. :mad:

Win DVR. See at Intervideo's site about demo. If you like it (and work well), you may buy it. It worked good with ATI 9000 Vivo card.

If it will crash, you better check your machine. Very likely there is some IRQ conflict or hardware error. Maybe BIOS setup will help.

P.S.: DSCaler work only with BT 8x8 based cards, so no chance to work with ATI (Teatre chip).

WinDVR 3.0 rocks!!!

Multimedia Center from ATI used to record garbage... now i get perfect quality clips with WinDVR. Wouhou! :D

Some people in the Dscaler forum reported it working with their AIW (using directshow w/ ATI's capture drivers installed), but the largest Thread (http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1133&highlight=wonder+ati&sid=32389f953bf75ac8ec101ec2795f9034) I found in my quick search was from last jan/feb and about a beta version that partially worked. So, I didn't know if the bugs were worked out yet.

It's a moot point now anyway. I'm glad you found software you liked RathO.

Yes RathO, You got the best app for TV viewing, I have been using WinDVR for the last 2 year's and its just awesome, the only irritating thing in this new 3.0 version is that it takes too much time too startup and the Scheduling program in the background works on some XML file :confused: , if only the startup time would have been like the quick one as in 2.0, it will have been the best.

Yeah its long, but as long as MMC from ATI so im used to it. :p

Sometimes, i dont care using older software as long as it does the job correctly. Was it really worth the pain to upgrade from 2 to v3 if v2 was so good?

I tried the software, i didn't really like it because too much settings... :scared:

I prefer WinDVR because its.. simple?
Sometimes, we get lazy u know... i put ALOT of my time on settings encodes, that i dont have any for other stuff..

Perhaps you can try KastorTV (http://www.kastortv.com/)? This software supports a nice list of TV tuners, so perhaps your ATI might be in this list..

I've been using it with my Pinnacle TV card for 6 months up to now, and it never had unexpectingly crashed! ;)

Well It was Worth the upgrade, specially the Fine tuning feature and the Channel Quicklist are really helpful. Not mentioning other features like the channel imp/exporting.

Well XML files have no problems they are the best and advanced usage of it makes developers' job a lot easier. But however WinDVR3 does something with a xml file scheduler.xml and recreates it everytime it starts, hence delaying the startup time manifold. That's weird.
