Ok,
I am backing Up PAL Animatrix and i want to Deinterlace the 2nd vobset. The problem is that i get strange artifacts using FieldDeinterlace. I was able to get rid of them using Telecide(guide=1) but i dont know whether this is the right solution as i have never used this before and could not really find anything on the forum that helped.

If anyone could help or give me some tips on this it would be brilliant.

Here is a Frame with the artifacts http://www.ntruelove.plus.com/frame.jpg

Thanks

FieldDeinterlace is for pure interlaced video. Telecide is for recovering progressive frames. I assume Animatrix is progressive anime, so use Telecide. But don't use Telecide(guide=1) for PAL. Use either guide=0 or guide=2. And read the Reference Manual!

Thanks for replying.

I had just been re-reading the reference Manual and i noticed that i miss read it as it says to set it to Guide=2.
I will change all the AVS's to use Telecide and encode it again.

Thanks

Try posting your Fielddeinterlace settings, and decomb version. You probably need to adjust the 'threshold' or 'dthreshold'. I haven't seen it perform so badly as of now.

Hi,

I used the version that came with the latest DoItFast4u(not sure what it was) and also version 5 beta 16. And Fielddeinterlace did not have any Settings as i had used the default settings DoItFast4u uses which was Fielddeinterlace()

Thanks

I have been trying different dthreshold and threshold values and the artifacts do change but i can not get them to compleatly dissapear. Is there a way to work out what the values should be or is it just trail and error.

Thanks

Post a link to a single frame clip in HUFYUV that contains the *source* frame corresponding to your JPG above. I will quickly tell you exactly what the problem is. Or mail it to me at cheap-red-wine@comcast.net and notify me here. sh0dan is correct, those artifacts are totally uncharacteristic of FieldDeinterlace().

But why are you continuing to deinterlace when IVTC is apparently called for?

Finally, if you must deinterlace, try KernelDeint() to retain better resolution in interpolated areas.

I was only trying fieldDeinterlace again because sh0don mentioned about threshold and seemed interested. But i dont think it is worth posting a clip as Telecide seems to work fine, but if you want to have a look i can.

Yes, please. I would like to have a look, as those are very strange artifacts.

assuming by pal you mean region 4 its already progressive, dont do any deinterlace/telecide over it, just treat it normally.

*edit* paste your avs, i have a feeling that what its showing is the motion map on what it plans to deinterlace.
