View Full Version : Maestro: Creating Still Menu

This one appeared to be easy:
I have an m2v file (mpeg2 still, 1 frame) and a corresponding ac3 file (30 secs) that I extracted/demuxed from a DVD menu using VobRator. DVDMaestro imports that files without error. But no matter what I tried (flaged the menu to be "still" and "loop") the resulting menu won't play! I tried that on WinDVD, MPC and a stand-alone; only the DVDMaestro navigation preview works.
I've done still menus a hundred times with bmp or jpg sources.
Any idea where I did wrong? Or is there some tool around to convert that mpeg2 still to bmp/jpg?

If you can actually play the file in powerdvd you can click the capture frame to file button, I am sure other players have this same feature but I can't think of them now, then just replace it with the menu asset in Maestro

Yes, you're right, WinDVD has the same feature, however, that was supposed to be my "last resort" since the image quality suffers during this process.

you shouldnt use a single frame m2v for menu in maestro, create a bmp instead.

Enf,
that's exactly what I'd like to do.
The thing is that I don't have a clue how to convert that single frame m2v (which I demuxed from an original menu w/VobRator) to a bmp file. I tried to generate a d2v/avs to import that into VirtualDub but that didn't work. The only method I have so far is the "capture in WinDVD" method, but usually the height/width don't match with the menu subpicture I get with SubRip, while the m2v has exactly the same dimensions...

If it's a vob file, then you can try MenuEdit and export the part you want to bmp. Or like it was said before power dvd or windvd.

Use a utility called m2v2bmp. Its a freeware and would extract all frames from a m2v video to bmps.

oddyseus,
that's exactly what I'm looking for.
But since google gave me no results, would you mind providing a link to that freeware application?

Hmm, interesting utility...
Why don't you put it in software section, so ppl can download it?
I sure want that utility...
Odysseus, can you post a link for its website or...send it also to me?
You can find my e-mail at the greek mirror

I guess that only the author should perform such a gesture. If doom9 wants the utility to put it in the download section I have no problem to provide it.
In the readme file it dosn't forbide the distribution by anyone so I guess its OKed by the author already.

Another request for m2v2bmp. Funny, I thought Google could find anything.
