View Full Version : HELP: NEW Problems with TMPGEnc and SVCD converting

Hi all... I've been having problems!!

I'm trying to convert SVCDs to VCDs using TMPGEnc Plus. I'm going to use the encoding group's names (SD-6, JTP, etc.), so I hope people know what I'm talking about.

Originally, I was able to convert SVCD-->VCD using SD-6 encodes with no problem. I then downloaded a new SVCD from a new encoder (don't know name) and couldn't watch it, burn it (using NERO) or convert it to VCD.

I downloaded and updated Nimo Codec Set Build 8. Now, I can watch the video and burn it as an SVCD. However, I still can't convert it to VCD. Not only that, now ALL SVCDs (like SD-6 encodes) are telling me that the audio portion is unreadable (in TMPGEnc). But, I can watch and burn them fine with Media Player and NERO.

It seems like I'm missing a codec somewhere, but I'm not sure which.

The other problem I had was with JTP encode VCDs. I can't burn them properly - the audio gets all screwed up near the end of the video and it becomes out of sync with the video.

Which program do people use to know which codecs to install? When I use AVIcodec and G-Spot, it tells me I have the codecs I need for these files (but obviously I don't).

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
FunkyMan

Nimo Codec Pack is the devil and you shouldn't use it... I've learned that a long time ago...

I don't know why you want to convert to VCD, since it lowers quality and usually if your stand alone can play VCDs it can play SVCDs. Could try that MPEGAV trick for your stand alone. (Default is MPEG2.)

If you truely wish to convert to VCD, then I would recommend using DVD2AVI -> AVISYNTH -> TMPGEnc method. This way you can add filters and such. It's actually the best method to convert and you don't have to rely on MPEG-2 directshow to decode your video in TMPGEnc.

It's quite possible your JTP VCDs are not standard and not burning right. You could try to remux them in TMPGEnc to VCD-Standard and then burning them.

Leon:

Can you clarify exactly how to use AVISynth 2.5 to process the AVI into TMPGEnc? I'm new to all of this, and I'm not sure what you mean. I installed AVISynth, but I can't seem to get it to work!

Thanks!

Well, I appear to have fixed my problems with converting SVCDs to VCDs. There was obviously a problem with my codecs (not sure which ones). I uninstalled Nimo, and I installed Ace MegaCodecs Pack, now everything works like a charm (I think).

Has anyone had any problems with the Ace Mega Codecs Pack? It seems far more stable than Nimo.

There are many guides on doom9.org. I guess a simple way to generate an AVS file would be to use Gordian Knot. Give it a shot.

I wouldn't trust any codec pack...
