I have just compared an MSI TV@nywhere (CX2388x) with a Flyvideo 3000 (SAA731x)
I have owned the MSI for some months now (it replaced my Bt878 card) and purchased the Flyvideo because many people have been saying good things about it.
Well I have to say that I am disappointed with the Flyvideo 3000. Compared the MSI using PAL Svideo input, I find the Flyvideo image to be not as sharp, and the color not as accurate. There is a slight but noticeable green hue to the picture which can not be adjusted out.
There seems to be a lot of filtering components on the inputs the Fly. I was considering bypassing these to see if sharpness could be improved. But since I can’t fix the color problems, I have given up on the Flyvideo.
So, for me the MSI card is a clear winner and is staying in my system until some thing better comes along.
I am a PAL user so I can’t comment on NTSC performance. The Fly may work better for NTSC I don’t know. The tuners on both cards are only average and I done use them anyway. I don’t have noise problems with either card in my system as some people have reported. I would say that I think the Fly may work better for people with noise problems, but at the cost of a softer picture.
