View Full Version : Capturing multisegment DV

Having searched for a while, I have not yet come across a program that will capture DV into multi-segment files. Even commercial programs.

AVI_IO can do multi-segment captures. I have tried it (on a machine that has both analog and DV cards) and it only recognises the analog card. There is no option to select any other, so I can only assume it uses the first device it finds. Other apps I have can find both (but can't do multi-segment).

I read on a web page that AVI_IO cannot capture multisegment DV on winXP (I am not using XP so no problem there). But this was the only reference I found to this program actually capturing DV.

As it is not a free program, there is no way I'm going to pay for a full version if it can't do DV.

Will AVI_IO capture multisegment DV?
Can AVI_IO select from multiple video capture devices?

PS: I have searched the forums for help on this, but no luck.

As far as I know AVI_IO does not support DV through firewire.

Thanks bb.

After more web surfing, I stumbled on a page that has a screen shot of AVI_IO showing two capture devices, so I guess it does support more than one.

After more surfing & reading, I have turned my attention to the fact that I need a VFW driver (I really like VirtualDub, it has a few nice features that Premiere doesn't, and studio 8 can't even compete!).

The WDM/VFW wrapper only goes from VFW=>WDM, not the other way:(

So, does anyone know of a IEEE1394 card that has VFW drivers - as opposed to the WDM drivers that they all(?) seem to ship with?
