Ive captured some old music videos from like 12 years ago that i intend to put onto dvdr. I dont like how convolution3d filters it though and i have no idea of what else to use. Does anyone have a recomendation on an avs to use with this source? Heres a unfiltered sample of one of some of the tapes im capturing. I compressed a small piece of the avi unfiltered but i had to encode it to 6000kbit high motion divx 5 (best i can do with 5megs of server space, but it looks EXACTLY like the original avi). Right click and save target as.

there's so much noise and funamental lack of source detail, i really wouldn't bother making full resolution dvds out of it - i'd settle for D2 1/2 resolution dvd instead

you don't like convolution3d? why not?!

this is what i used (including the 2.0x version of convolution3d):

avisource("7.avi")
converttoyuy2(interlaced=true)
assumefieldbased()
assumetff()
separatefields()
a=selecteven().convolution3d(0,9,9,45,45,100,0)
b=selectodd().convolution3d(0,9,9,45,45,100,0)
interleave(a,b)
weave()
crop(14,0,706,464)
lanczosresize(656,480)
crop(8,0,642,480)
lanczosResize(352,480)

then i used a 1/2 resolution DVD template and encoded via tmpgenc

have a look:

Thanks for the reply. Its not that I dont like c3d, it just doesnt look good at the bqvhs setting. Ill give your settings a try.

Isnt it better to resize before weave, or does it make any difference? I allways thought that it might screw with the interlacing.

Yes, that's true.

oh well, i didn't know that, and i now don't know how to keep the correct aspect ratio and cut out the black border and cut out the vhs head crap when resizing only one field with a view to keeping it interlaced

cut out the black border and cut out the vhs head crap
This can be done before applying SeparateFields.

i now don't know how to keep the correct aspect ratio
Just take the height twice as small when resizing.

For example:

avisource("7.avi")
crop(14,0,706,464)
converttoyuy2(interlaced=true)
assumefieldbased()
assumetff()
separatefields()
a=selecteven().convolution3d(0,9,9,45,45,100,0)
b=selectodd().convolution3d(0,9,9,45,45,100,0)
interleave(a,b)
lanczosResize(352,232)
weave()
AddBorders(0,8,0,8)
