View Full Version : Shortcut to create VCD after creating SVCD

Yes, I am a newbie.
I have searched through the forum, and could not find anything that seems to relate to my situation.
Using the latest version of DVD2SVCD, I am able to successfully rip and create the bin/cue files for SVCD burning.
I (also) have a DVD player that cannot play SVCD's, only VCD's. Is there any way to short-cut all the ripping, etc and make VCD's from what is left over for the VCD rip & image create?
If this is too complex a question, perhaps someone could tell me how far along in the process before the two diverge and I'll try to piece together what is required from the logfile.
Thanks in advance,
Cliff

hi and welcome to the forum,
the two processes split apart fairly soon. actually all that happens the same for both is the actual ripping and the d2a project. they use different resolutions and a different codec. perhaps (not sure about it though, you might be able to use some of the audio assets you created.
anyway, i think you'll be fastest if you do the VCD from the DVD again, as DVD2SVCD will do it pretty much for you anyway!

I appreciate the welcome to the forum Steve - Thanks!
I figured the two processes would diverge early on, but it wasn't straightforward and it doesn't hurt to ask.

Hi-
There's at least a fair chance that your DVD player can be fooled into thinking that your SVCD is really a VCD, and play it with no problem. For more information please read this Sticky (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42406). And go to DVDRHelp (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers) and look up your player. There may be information about whether or not the trick will work for your player.

It would appear the error:
--DEBUG: EEL sysid=[C:\Rips\VCDXBU~1.XML] pubid=[(null)]
--DEBUG: EEL sysid=[http://www.gnu.org/software/vcdimager/videocd.dtd] pubid=[-//GNU//DTD VideoCD//EN]
C:\Rips\VCDXBU~1.XML:1426: validity error: IDREF attribute ref reference an unknown ID "entry-chapt-02"
^
**ERROR: parsing file `C:\Rips\VCDXBU~1.XML' failed
Has something to do with the fact DVD2SVCD creates MPEG-2 files even when MPEG-1 is selected.
I've tried a couple of different things, but nothing seems to correct this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, without any change whatsoever.
Am I doing something wrong trying to create a VCD, MPEG-1 file with DVD2SVD? Any suggestions here are most welcome.
Thanks!

@Cliff-->It can be vexing as hell when trying to unravel one of these problems, but we need to back up a little bit here. Before you've responded to the advice Manono offered to you in your previous thread, you've created another thread on virtually the same problem. Did you try the VCD header trick? Did you go to the linked site and do the research suggested by Manono? Please do him the courtesy of answering.
After some review, I've decided to merge this thread with your original on the same problem, that's where this really belongs. Give the appropriate feedback on the advice you've been offered, and you'll receive help, I can't give it to you, or I would. What I am trying to do is give you pointers on how to effectively gain solid help. Quid pro quo. Good luck.

Edit--If you feel it would be more to the point to change the title of this, the original thread, please feel free to do so.:)

True enough ammck, at first blush the 'vcd header trick' seems a bit beyond my skill level. By that I mean if it doesn't work I couldn't be sure if it was because I had screwed something up, or if my player doesn't support it. I wasn't trying to be discourteous, I just wanted some time to evaluate the workaround so my response could be somewhat (?) intelligent.
I'll give it a try, but I guess what I was hoping for was someone to have come across this situation themselves. I dunno, are other people making VCD's successfully with dvd2svcd; or just svcd's?

I run across things each time I come here that are way beyond my personal skill level. Crawl, walk, run! Check out this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56625&highlight=vcd+problem/) from the DVD2SVCD Basic Topics forum. Your problem is discussed therein, with a solution offered that apparently worked. The Search button is your best friend! If this is your fix, "punch the trouble ticket" by letting us know.

I tried the VCD header trick, and my Toshiba plays the audio, but will not play the video. Video plays fine using PowerDVD on my PC.
I then tried TmpGenc for creating the MPEG-1 instead of CCE, and I get the same xml error as before when creating the bin file.
If I make a VCD using Nero, I also receive the same error where Nero believes the file is not an MPEG-1, but says it is an MPEG-2.
Not sure what else to try....
