View Full Version : 3dMark2001 cannot render MP3s - Moonlight Odio to blame?

Please read the entire thread; this is an audio issue.

I have DirectX 9.0b installed on Windows Server 2003 (yes, it has been through the 'Workstation' process and I have successfully played games and watched movies). Trying to run 3dMark2001 SE on a Celeron 2.4GHz, GeForce4 based system. I have the DefilerPak installed for watching movies, but 3dMark hates me:

3dMark2001SE_build_330 came out of the closet to say:

MP3 exception - Unable to instantiate all filter for MP3 playback

According to GSpot, the MP3 file takes this path:

(Source) --> MPEG-I Stream Splitter --> Moonlight Odio Dekoda --> (Render)

Whereas it should not be going through the Moonlight decoder. How can I fix this? I already tried unregistering the device (regsvr32 -u mlcom.ax) and then GSpot showed this path:

(Source) --> MPEG-I Stream Splitter --> ACM Wrapper --> (Render)

But 3DMark still won't play the demo. I even reinstaled the Fraunhofer Mp3 codec and set its priority to 1 (through Sound Devices control panel, Hardware tab, Audio Codecs).

What should I do now?

's not moonlight odio, i don't think. 3dmark works fine here. winxp though. Could be the os/soundcard drivers.

I've ran the demo on this machine before under the same circumstances, with the same sound card but using the built-in video card instead (SiS 651). Hey, at least it ran. I wasn't trying to compete for 3dmark scores with that card. :P

But now that I put the gf4 in the computer and reinstalled the program it give me this crappy mp3 exception. :(

[edit] boy isn't my grammar good today? i'm watching the tv and posting @ the same time. really good for concentration. ;)

did you reinstall directx after swapping gfx cards? did you uninstall the other drivers before putting the geforce ones on?

yeah i've done all that. I even upgraded to the latest drivers for my AC'97 audio chipset (ALC 650). At least dual-stereo works fine now, but the demo still will not play music. It's got to do with all the audio/video codecs still installed.

I have uninstalled DefilerPak and K-Lite, yet many third party codecs remain.

Where is the registry key for installed codecs and parsers/splitters? Is there a utility that can get rid of all third party codecs?

OK here's the latest on this issue:

I installed the K-Lite Codec Pack today, and whatever associations in the chain it altered, somehow made it possible for 3dMark to play MP3s again. No new drivers or anything else changed. Thus I am left to conclude that one of the splitters from DefilerPak is to blame for the snafu.
