Is there a way to calculate how much data subtilites will add to the video stream ?
The subs that subrip made are about 9mb in size. When I added the subs with I-author is added about 40mb to the size. Thats a 5x increase, and I would think that something would depend the movie, and not a constant variable.

Each sub is going to vary in size slightly depending on how much text that particular bitmap contains, but in the end you are talking about very minor fluctuations so you really can use a constant multiplier and get accurate size prediction. To speed things up you can use FitCD/Fit2Disk. You just input the # of bitmaps you have and it takes it into consideration when calculating your bitrate...great tool.

thanks for the reply, in the mean time I have managed to get winsubmux working fine. I find it adds alot less to the final file size, and its not as cumbersome and timne consumer as I-author is when dealing with svcds that span muliplte cds.
