Mosaic-picture software

I'm searching for a good program to make mosaic pictures.
I tried several. A very good one is Mazaika. But it is Shareware and my trial period has expired and there also some other limitations if don't want to pay for it.

So here are some examples of what Mazaika does:

Mosaic-Pics (in german) but pictures are multilingual ;-p (http://www.morlaix-2003.de/David/mosaics/index.html)

Does anybody knows a similar software for free or other solutions?
Maybe there are photoshop plugins.

Mazaika is already pretty good as it analyzes the colour forms (? farbverläufe ?) also within a single tile. So if you know alternatives please respond or pm me.

I deleted it! The reason is I misunderstood what you are searching for, I thought you just need something to add the typical mosaic-look to regular pictures.
So I wrote a post about the GIMP and how you can find this effect there...
Later I checked your pictures and realized that you are searching for something totally different...
And because I realized that my post was therefore useless for you I deleted it...
Sorry, can't help you with that software I'm afraid... :(
