View Full Version : Creating a MiniDVD by using DVDShrink 2.3, if we can only do the same for XSVCD!

I know that MiniDVD is not a very popular format since most desktop players won't play them, aside from my Mintek DVD-1600.
Last night I was working with DVDShrink v2.3 to fix some problems with a dificult DVD (the LEXX series), and I started playing with the Start/End feature by selecting a range of chapters then I decided to make a MiniDVD with one 2-CH AC3 audio track, to my suprise I managed to fit 35 mins on a CD using a copression level of 10 and the quality was great, the whole proccess took only 5 mins to complete, then I burned the CD with Nero and tested on my Mintek.
My point for this post is simple, if this could be achieved in so little time and with such a good quality, could we do the same for XSVCD?
An engine like the one behind DVDShrink could blast away any CCE/Tmpgenc encoding time or quality, I know that the resolution have to be kept at 720x480(XSCVD) since re-encoding is out of the question, but I'm sure most players will handle this by using a SVCD format instead of MiniDVD.
One more thing, I wish DVDShrink will allow for lower compression levels, or maybe a variable level like in IC7. Some DVD material could be taken lower than level 10, and to DVDShrink creator thank you for such a great tool it sure beats DVD2ONE and even IC7 in most of my DVDs convertions.

This is an interesting question I'd liked to see posts also..

I would think the bitrate would remain too high... you would have places where the data could not be read from the CD fast enough...

You can run things through DVD Shrink twice, sometimes a film looks really bad and other times its still amazingly good - must depend on the original compression quality.
