is this normal ?
I noticed some days ago that the VFW codec, Panasonic DV, messes up the virtualdub and virtualdubmod.

After restart on installation, on WinXP, with the attempt to open a DivX5 file, VDub goes crazy and tries to open it with Panasonic DV codec ???

Of course I get an error, but the fourcc code is right. What it's happening ? Same error after reinstalling Windows from scratch !

This goes for VDubMod also !

if I delete the pdvcodec.dll from windows\system32, everything goes back to normal, but isin't there any way for these 2 codecs to live along on the same WinXP ?

I'm having this same problem now.

Anyone an idea?

I fixed the problem by reinstalling windwos (again) and using another version of PanasonicDV, with the other way of installing...after this I switched to MainConceptDV :)

This is the fault of the Panasonic DV codec, it will accept just about any FOURCC there is (also non-sensical things like 'BEER'and 'B.S.'). Did you have the DivX-codec installed or for example only XviD? Removing the codec and re-installing it will resolve the problem, but with every update of DivX/XviD it would reappear again. Perhaps it also has something to do with the order in which you install your codecs.

Anyway, Mainconcepts seems to be smarter when it comes to FOURCC's ;)

I believe Avery Lee is putting a 'fix' (apparantly more codecs do this sort of thing) in VirtualDub 1.6.0 for this: if a codec accepts a non-sensical FOURCC (e.g. B.S.) VirtualDub wont use it for anything but a direct match. But the problem really lies with the codec, not VirtualDub.
