Are there any others like me who had Nero 5.5 OEM as a bundled package with their burner with no licence code? I have been using the 6.0 demo which removed the 5.5 version. Now I want to buy I licence for the full 6.0 but it asks for the previous licence # which I was never supplied because it was OEM!!!!!!
I really get pissed off when updates like this have piss poor release organisation and the end users have to mess around. How many OEM 5.5's have they released???? How difficult would it have been to structure the update pages accordingly????????

You're right
Unfortunately, Nero is not the only piece of software who does that...
I guess if you contacted them (and they answered!! :D :D ) they would say that your OEM version is not upgradable...

there is no serial # for your 5.5 because it IS OEM. that's why you have to buy the new version to obtain a legal serial#. Just go to there website and order it.
PS I really like your nickname, I wish I thought of it first;)

I thought this might be the case. Bugger.
$60 bucks eh? Seems overpriced as all I want is the DVD Burner and Recode.

I'll sell for it for $60 and pay for my expensive updgrage if you want ;)

This is from the nero website
2. Where is the Nero/NeroExpress Serial key located on the Product I purchased ?
For the Retail version (besides the CD, it contains a manual, a label applicator and a set of labels) of Nero, the serial number is located on the inside cover of the jewel case the Nero CD came in.
For OEM version of Nero/Nero Express, the serial key is located on the back side of the paper sleeve the Nero CD came in.
For OEM bundles, such as Yamaha, TDK, Memorex, Lite-On, etc. you do not need a serial key as it is embedded and it will install automatically. After a successful installation, you can find your serial key located in your registry. See below for details on how to locate it:
Start -> Run and type in REGEDIT.
Then from within the registry go to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER and then go to SOFTWARE>AHEAD>NERO BURNING ROM and look under INFO
You will find your serial number on the right-hand side at Serial5 and it will look like;
15xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

i read somewhere that if you have the OEM version of 5.5 you have to pay the full price for 6, if you have retail 5.5 you get reduced pricing for 6...

If you look at my profile, I've been here about 6 months longer and ao could have taken dvd maniac, but because some of the other forums I belong to do not let me use spaces I used dvd_maniac and it is just simpler to use same user pass for all forums.
So I guess you'll just have to cough up the $60.00....:)

Thanks MackernX for the identity support!
and thanks to insertdisk and mrbass for taking the time to help out. The OEM install disc from Philips did not have the reg file accessible (.cab files) and of course the Nero 6 demo installer wiped it out. But the reg key route worked a treat and I have registered for the upgrade rather than the full version.
Strange how Ahead do not make this clear on the Purchase page and you have to search around in the FAQ's isn't it? Could it be they are hoping users will buy more at the full purchase price? Call me a cynic:sly:
