Hey guys,
Well, I think the header already asked the question, and I really do hope that this question isn't already awnsered in some other post. The only thing I do have is sound.
What I already tried; I installed the codec pack from Doom9, and tried to figuer out, how to find out the preferences of a movie with VirtualDub (hanen't got it yet; maybe need some help with that too).
Does somebody have some advise?
cheers

have you tried gspot to figure out what codec was used to encode the movie/clip? seems to me as if a codec is missing!

Well, I just found out how to get the information in VD. It said that the video codec is Divx 5.0.5. But that can't be right, because I think I alread had that movie befor 5.0.5 got out. And if it is 5.0.5, there shouldn't be any problem with playing it in WMP; all my other movies work.
Another weird thing is, that I have a picture in VD.

hmmm... okay... i think this means that somehow the header or some other general file structure got corrupted.
easiest way to try to fix this would be a direct stream copy in vdub,
or to run DivFix on the file!

I just tried it with DivFix. I think it found something, but the new file it produced is still not playable on WMP.
I just opend the movie with DivX player 2.1 and guess what, it worked. I would really like to know wtf is going on with my WMP. And by the way, I opend the old file with the DivX Player 2.1
I will try now to make a direct stream copy into VD. hold on a sec

you're welcome :)
direct stream copy means that vdub doesn't change the video or audio (in terms of compression) but just copies the streams :)
what it does though is write a new header for the avi file. so if the information in there is somehow corrupt it get's fixed this way.
