View Full Version : Is Vdub supposed to be this slow?

I have a 2.2 Ghz/768 Meg ram P4 computer, and Vdub encodes at ~5 fps. Is this a good speed? I tried to recompress a regular avi and got 20fps..

I was wondering whether increasing priority in windows task manager (I have XP) would help. If I set the vdub priority higher, I tend to lose functionality of the entire computer, including vdub, so I was wondering about that as well.

edit: Maybe I should tell you what I'm doing. I ripped a DVD, and used DVD2AVI to save the project, then used VFAPIConv (I just copied the file name, hope you know what it is) to make a dummy avi, which I am using in vdubmod to make a 2-pass avi.

k thx bye

Yep that might help ;). How about codec used and all settings, that could help too. 5 fps doesn't seem too bad if you were maybe using Xvid with advanced features. The speed also might have something to do with VFAPI, I've never used it so I don't know how fast it is or if there are unneccessary colorspace conversions occurring, you could always try AviSynth (http://www.avisynth.org) for frameserving instead. hth,

xvid, 2 pass...but I think it's due to me encoding a dummy avi which indexes the dvd vob files (does that make sense? I'm not down with the terms :p )
