Hi

I've tried several searches to see a definitive answer on this, so please don't flame me if there is one from neons ago! :D

I've just used InstantCopy to backup a DVD9 (menu/move/English audio/subs) - used the info/posts off here. Nice quality for the time taken imho...

In the past I've used all the old methods/tools and for simplicity used to just backup the main movie (with main audio/chapter points). As the transcoding in IC7 is pretty fast for the tradeoff against quality I'd like to know if there is a method which can be simply used to use the transcoding engine of IC7 to create a movie only backup? I've read about DVD2DVDR but I don't want to use CCE (I can do it manually myself without much fuss these days). I know there's other 'one click' back-up utilities which can do movie only (DVD2ONE etc.) but I really am impressed with IC7's quality so I'd like to use that.

Does anyone do anything like this at the moment?

I'm thinking of ripping the movie only (+ audio etc.) using DVD Decrypter. Authoring it with IFOEDIT (as I used to do, but after an encode normally). But then loading the authored folders (IFO etc.) into IC7 and transcoding that way. Is this the best way to do it or is there a better way?

Your help much appreciated.

Cheers

I would do it like this:

Take the VOB files that make up the main movie and use IFOEdit to make new IFO files for them. Then, use Instantcopy on the files.

I think I understand what your after, try this.....

http://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/

it will let use backup dvd-9 movie only to one dvd-r if the movie is less than 2hr with no compression resulting in perfect quality

ignore this reply if I got the gist of your message wrong

1. DVD Decrypter select all files
2. DVD Fab - movie only
3. IC7

Even if the movie is over 2 hours let IC7 do its thing. Movies at 80% or higher look virtually the same as if 100%. In fact I'm happy with many at 60%.

Thanks to all who replied. I think all the solutions are basically doing the same thing. Decrypting, authoring/rebuilding as main movie only, then transcoding with IC7. I think I'll stick with IfoEdit method for now as I am used to it from the old days (well a few months back!) of DVD authoring etc. Saves me buying the other products too (although I relaise DVD Fab is free - but the site is temporarily down - due to the legality reasons I read about, I guess). I probably would have decrypted only the main movie and authored in IfoEdit before but I now realise that it's more common to decrypt the whole DVD and strip via IfoEdit (VOB extras etc.). Anyway, thanks again - I'll try this next time I want to backup movie only.
