According to the Nero site, you can just download it from there.
http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php
Although it still says its 0.90 Beta.
Downloading it now to see if its actually a new version.

It's on all nero ftp servers. File is called NVE2011.EXE. This is the latest nero vison package including the new recode.

@bugfixes: GREAT!!! :)
@new: hm...can you switch off the preview? because i think it will slow down the trancoding process!
by the way: recode is awesome! i will only use this now! :)
great quality and good speed!
EDIT
also new:
- *make quality selection in case of multiple audio tracks in the same language* is now implemented!
- *automatic playback if video is selected* can be enabled or disabled!

This program is almost perfect now, apart from two very annoying bugs (which I found present in both versions):
No matter what burn speed I select (1x or 2x) it ALWAYS burns at 2x. I like to burn everything at 1x, so this really bothers me. Although, since I upgraded to Nero 6 I don't have an option to select 1x for my DVD burner? Maybe that's the cause.
Additionally, the DVD title isn't copied over from the DVD, at least when using DVD files from the hard drive. It gives the name the default name "Nero Recode" to every DVD.
I hope to see both of these fixed in the next version--then, I'll have a true replacement for InstantCopy.

No, at least I did not find an option to turn this off.
Compared the transcoding speed of this version (0.9.5.1) to 0.90 beta and I think this one is slightly faster or at least as fast.

Did some testing.
New bug:
Found one (small) new bug. It undersizes the video by 10 MB so if you select a target size of 4482 MB the result will be 4472 MB in size. Tested this on 3 DVD I used for my previous test. The 0.90 beta did not have this problem.
It is not a real problem because it always undersizes by exactly 10MB. Therfore I can set the custom size to be 10MB bigger.
Also it does not keep the selected video size as a default. I need to set it each time when I start Recode.
Quality:
The quality seems to be slightly better. The movie that I tested that was not exceptable because of extensive macro blocking in the first scene has less macro blocks. Still not acceptable but it seems that ahead is working on the transcoder engine to improve the quality even further.
Speed:
The speed has improved. A movie that is 3 hours long takes about 40 minutes (used to take 45 minutes) at normal priority.

i really thought that it would be slower, because of the preview feature!

Nero Recode allows to strip subtitles from the menu's. If you do this it can be that the highlighting does not work anymore. If you do not strip subtitles from the menu then there will not be a problem.

In Recode there is that icon (looks like a short stripe of film) next to every title...in some cases (on extras) it can be changed from yellow to red/green and vice versa, while main movie and menus have red/green and cannot be changed...anyone can explain, what yellow or red/green means on these icons?

I did not notice that it could be changed.
How do you change it ?
Which movies (maybe I have one in my collection so I can try) are we talking about ?

Just click on it once :-)
Will update this post with some movies soon...
UPDATE
Just realised it doesn't work on all movies...on some movies, they just stick to red/green for all...
I am a bit short on hd space, as far as I remember, it was Crazy/Beautiful R1 NTSC (the canadian one with french audio), which showed this behaviour...if I find more, I'll let you know...

I found one THE MATRIX. Yellow icons in the main and in the extra's.
This yellow icon is a shared group. This means that the content is shared with other streams and thos streams need to be compressed at te same level.
I think when you click the icon it ignores this sharing and you can set the compression level manually.

Sounds good...but if you ignore the setting...what will happen? Only one of the set compression levels can apply, isn't that right? (Maybe this is the same as the corresponding option in dvdshrink, I never tried that one either...)

As I understood from posts about DVDshrink it is indeed the case that only one compression level can be applied. So what the use of this options is I do not know also. Maybe someone else has an idea ?

I have a weird problem with recode.
When I let nero do the burning, my dvd player does not play the disc.
If I burn the files made by recode with recordnow it plays perfect.
Another glitch?
P.S.: yes, I use 0.9.5.1;)

Hi there, something for you to check out, if you feel like it...
I just did two discs (Bicentennial Man R2 PAL and American History X R2 PAL) with Recode 0.9.5.1 and encountered the following problems playing the burned disc on my standalone Yamakawa DVD-215 FW 3.2 (Note: None of the below problems occur on the PC with ZoomPlayer using WinDVD5!):
1. The "Video has been removed" screen shows some irregular black bars through some areas of the screen, seems to be the same irregularity every time and every removed title, no variations.
2. The subtitles are not displayed at all (only for American History X).
3. I didn't check through all extras and stuff, but for example on Bicentennial Man, the making-of starts 1-2 seconds late, meaning, the player skips the first 1-2 seconds of the video.
I had the DVDs ripped in file mode with DVDDecrypter V3.1.6.0 (removing region code and UOPs etc.), then fed this to Recode removing one or the other title and/or sub/audio stream, then build an image with ImgTools classic V0.90 build 5 and burned this with DVDDecrypter.
Anyone has similar experiences on the yamakawa 215 or any other standalone? Any ideas as to why this might happen (the original discs do not show any problems on the yamakawa)?

how are you burning it in nero? if you are just using dvd--->dvd-video this is known to cause some problems. For better compatablity you should use UDF/ISO mode.
Many people swear by recordnow max, they say it is the best for burning dvds, haven't tried it out yet but many people say this

I really like Nero Recode for its ability to remove Extras in a very compatible way, but I'm not convinced the recoding quality is really that good. Not close to IC7 IMHO, more like DVDShrink or DVD2One.
However, it's nice to rip extras with Recode and then transcode with IC7. This way, you can even compress the "Video removed"-Screens much more.

I have the same problem. Recode still needs a lot of work.

yeah I switch to RecordNow Max and all my DVD's play on everything I can try them out on I had problems when I used Nero to burn. But this recode stuff is looking promising but I'm gonna wait for the new shrink 2.4

I am not so sure about this.
I have made a movie backup specifying target size to 4472 MB.
The resulted backup size was 4,689,203,200 Bytes, which is equal to (4,689,203,200 / 1024 /1024) 4471.97 MB.
I do not see this 10 MB difference.

I had a problem with Recode recently with 2 movies: Cradle 2 the Grave and Femme Fatale. Recode produced a 4.38 gigs worth of files for Femme Fatale and then I converted with ImgTool Classic to ISO and the ISO came out to 7 gigs! I tried it again and had the same problem. I copied the recoded files over to a different hard drive then tried it again and the ISO sized properly. It was weird, I thought I might be having a problem with my hard drive so I started using a different hard drive.
I did Cradle 2 the Grave yesterday and my 4.38 gig movie came out to be a 5 gig ISO. Then I copied it over to a different hard drive, ran it through IMGtools again and it worked. I burned it to DVD and it would not work on my standalone. I tried the femme fatale disc and that wouldn't work on my standalone either. Then I went back to the original Recoded Cradle 2 the Grave files and did did a Get VTS Sectors in IFO Edit and it corrected several problems. I ran those files through IMGTools and it sized properly and played fine on my standalone once I burned it to a DVD.
So basically, from now on, I'm going to do a Get VTS sectors just to be safe with the Recode output. I wonder what the heck IMG tools was doing to make the ISO's so big with my improper Ifo's. AND, I wonder how copying the files from one hard drive to another allowed IMG Tools to size properly. Weird.
