I know what for VCD, the slower the better, and i used to burn them at 1x. But what about SVCD? I had problems with 2x, but 4x worked perfect. Is faster than 4x any trouble?

Hi
I guess you are using cdr´s, since you are asking about vcd and svcd?
I allways burn my svcd´s at 48x. And i never have any problems. New cd writers and cdr´s are constructed to giv a good result at that speed so i cant see wy one shuld burn them any slower.
Burning slower will generate more heat and too much heet are never good.

i've always burned at my burner's fastest possible, which hasn't been much: 8x for years, now 12x. no problems with either though, i think the media quality might be more important.

Every burner and computer is different. When the Q+A was written 16x burners were about the fastest out there and they were not always reliable.

If you see green blocks or choppy play on your SVCD's then slow it down.

My JVC XV-S300BK doesn't like anything burned higher than 4X

I think the quality of the media is very important.

Good quality cd-r's can be written at all current speeds
without problems (1x.. up to 48x).

So before you blame your drive, try some good quality media.

If you still have problems, then you probably have some
kind of problem with your drive (old? dusty?).

faster burning process is the result of 4 itens:

good media, good program, good cd burner and
in this case (vcds - svcds), good encode!

like markrb posted:
"If you see green blocks or choppy play on

right but it's too late, you loose your cd
and have to burn it again, then, is better
start with slow speed (4x) and encrease
the speed in the next vcd or svcd to know the limits.

starting at slow speed is not better....is secure!

was needed long time to got the good encode,
burn is the easy part....!
