I have dvdshrink 2.3 everything was working fine. did a windows update and now everytime I click on dvdshrink the whole computer locksup, dvdshrink never even loads.
I removed dvdshrink, cleaned the registry, removed a bunch of junk from the c drive and still nothing.
the update that was downloaded was a critical update and a java update, both cant be removed.
Any suggestions?

This is probably a reach, but maybe reinstall your version of DirectX and/or your ASPI drivers?

Thanks Homey,
Tried the aspi, no luck.
Now downloading the 9b directx files.
now dvd2one is doing the same thing. except for the older version, it still works.
will let the group know if I find out what it is.

Another reach... do you have anything installed like AnyDVD or DVD Region-Free that might be interfering with the process?

I just tried the new directx, No luck.
No region stuff. only other programs are dvddecrypter and advdinfo.
BUT,
Somehow in my hardware device manager I have a new dvd drive? its labeled AXV CD/DVD ROM SCSI CDROM DEVICE. Bus Number 0, Target ID 0, LUN 0.
it acts like a real piece of hardware. and it doesnt have a region on it. Everytime I delete it, windows puts it back in.
It doesnt do anything.its not real.
all I have on this system is a pioneer ao4 and a pioneer 106.
Very starnge.
Thanks for the help homey.
But I guess its about time for a new install of xp pro.

I believe the axv drive is a virtual drive installed by Alcohol 120%

so far I have gotten rid of everything thats been put on this computer for the past 4 months. Still no luck. Has to be something inside windows itself.

Hey guys well good news. I figured out the mess.
If you are running xp or xp pro and the system hangs and becomes unresponsive when you start dvd shrink. Its your video driver.
I tried everything with mine. Even installing a new new formated system. but no luck.
After searching the web extensivly I noticed that the one thing nobody with the problem was saying was anything about video drivers.
after doing a search for xp lockups(and a lot of filtering) it was clear. The newer drivers from nvidia and ati have a few bugs. Not only will they have a good chance of messing with dvdshrink but a ton of games and other apps. mostly graphic intensive apps. Since alot of people have auto update on, then the system updates the driver.
Here is something to save yourself alot of headaches.
Uninstall all software from your video card. including all media center apps, command center apps, legacy drivers, capture drivers and the video drivers themselves. Then shutdown and restart your system. Dont allow the os to reinstall the card again. instead cancell out and restart. Do this 3 or 4 times(xp has a bad habbit of not unloading and loading drivers and software from files but rather from memory and the pagefile, even after a restart.) after your satisfied you did this shut the whole thing down and go get a soda. Come back and start up the system. If you want to see if it really is your driver, then install all your drivers and software from the original cd. If you want to be brave try the newest drivers from ati or nvidia ( both work great, and both are new in the past week or two. Install as required and in the order required. and then after all is in, then do the restart thing a couple of times.
Then try your dvdshrink. It should now work. If it doesnt
then pull your hair out cuss all the gods of olympus and go buy a mac.
Just kidding.
Hope this helps somebody.
Also sound card drivers use to be really bad about cause probs with systems just a couple of years ago. So if you have an older system check them out to.
Best of luck guys. Now back to backing up my collection.:)

The lastest nvidia driver is:
Version: 45.23
Release Date: August 13, 2003
works just fine...perhaps your using an alpha quality leaked unofficial 50.xx which you shouldn't be.
