To GMC or not to GMC (DivX Pro 5.0.5) - that is my question

A survey of threads in the DivX 5 forum having GMC in their titles, as to whether to use GMC or not, seems to come down on the negative side. However most of the posts are of 2002 vintage, so wonder if opinion has changed for DivX 5.0.5??

Personally I don't use GMC that much anymore.

But for those who are wondering what it is. Here's an extact from one of DivX's help pages: -

Global Motion Compensation (GMC)
DivX Pro 5.0 introduces the ability to use global motion compensation (GMC) to improve visual quality and data compression ratios.
GMC techniques make use of the common elements of zooming and panning scenes to reduce data requirements and compress the video more effectively.
You can imagine how in a sequence where a large-scale panning or zooming occurs, the data required to represent each frame in that sequence can be reused to a high extent. (After all, most of the scene remains the same; it is only panning or zooming across the camera frame.) GMC makes use of this commonality to reduce the amount of data required to encode these types of scenes.
(Note that videos encoded using GMC may not be compatible with future DivX Certified™ hardware devices.)

Using GMC may be useful for those who like to alter the Bitrate Modulation toward the 'low motion' side.

In my personal opinion, there are too many DivX features to fiddle with anyway!
