View Full Version : DVDshrink/NeroRecode error during analysis

I am getting a weird error during the initial analysis of a couple of DVDs using either DVDshrink or Nero recode, but not with instant copy. I have ripped the dvds to my hard disk using smart ripper. About halfway through the initial analysis DVDshrink reports "invalid nv_pck: nv_vobu_ea. The reason is: uknown". Nero recode just says: "unable to process source dvd video title". The fact that it occurs about halfway through the movie makes me suspect it has something to do with the layer break.
Both the original ripped movie and the instant copy recompressed one play just fine using any software DVD player.
Any ideas?

I got this with the movie "The Ring" as well.
Except for me, InstantCopy crashes during transcoding; I can't get it to work at all. And both DVDShrink and ReCode produce the error you mentioned. DVD2one crashes as well.
Not sure what it is. I didn't think it was the layer break, since for me, it happens toward the beginning of the process.

DVDShrink and CloneDVD do a more thourough testing of the structure,(by the looks of it, so does Nero Recode)and if they encounter something wrong, they refuse to continue.
IC7 and DVD2ONE do a rough testing at first, and just crash during transcoding. Sometimes IC7 finishes, sometimes DVDshrink does, and the outcome plays on most players, but not on 'picky' ones.

and ecpecially geffroman's responce.
I'm almost 100% sure it's a similar case

I remember this thread now. I checked and the only chapter weirdness is that chapter 12 consists of 2 cells, one before and one after the layer break. There is a little "layer br." note next to the second cell in ifo-edit's chapter listing. This is in a place that could be the source of the error, although as far as I know this is legal. How would I go about fixing it? How can I remove layer breaks before feeding it to dvdshrink?

Check 2COOL's answer. Let us know whether it worked.

Solved!
Simply changing the angle type didn't work, but processing the relative vts set with ifoedit/vobextras did the trick.
I believe the problem arises only when ripping with smartripper and not dvd-decrypter, although I can not test it right now for various weird reasons.

I have a similar problem when analyzing Waterworld.
DVD Shrink gives me: 'Invalid nv_pck: nv_vobu_ea. The reason is: unknown'.
Recode gives me: "The DVD has invalid navigation packs in VOB files".
Anybody any clues....?

Have you tried what was suggested already? That is processing the relevant vts set with ifoedit/vobextras?

Oh sorry. No, I missed that. I thought it was all about angles.
Will try later, but moved on to another project now.
