When I try to open Nero Recode, it says: "The licence you are currently using does not allow you to start this application"

I'v done a fresh install of Nero 6.0.0.9 but that didn't solve the problem.

Does anyone know a solution ??

Did you enter a serial number form Nero 5.5 or older?

No, a Nero 6 serial

Strange !!!!

The Demo version works. But after entering the serial it doesn't work anymore.

So anyone figure out how to make Nero Recode work after
registering for Nero 6?

I'd hate to pay/register and get a code that does not enable
Recode to work.

Did you try starting it by using Smart Start? I had the same prob when trying to start Recode from Nero Vision Express 2. I tried through Smart start once, and it works OK now for both cases.

Okay I have both Nero 6 and the NeroVision demos.
How do you start Recode from StartSmart or NeroVision?
I don't see any option that will run Recode. The only way
I've been running Recode is by going to the directory and running
it directly.

Start/Programs/Nero/NeroVision Express 2/Nero Recode
or
Start Smart/ left of the window : click on applications. At the bottom is Nero Recode

I can get to Recode by going through Windows either using Windows explorer or through the Start menu>Programs>Nero>NeroVisionExpress2.

Running StartSmart I can see the list of applications on the left
hand side - but it has everything BUT Recode. Recode does reside
on my computer, and is under the Ahead/Nero Recode directory.

Running VisionExpress does not give me any option to run Recode.
I see an option to burn Make CD/Other Formats. But selecting this
brings up a window stating that you have to buy the MPEG2 decoder
for it to work.

Not very polished - but I guess that's what happens when they delay
the release to put this in.

I'd still like to hear about those who had problems with Recode
saying that their current licnese did not allow them to use the
program. I'm not going to pay for Nero6 and then find out I can't
use Nero Recode! At this point that's the only reason I'd pay for
Nero 6. One person said they had this problem but fixed it after
running Recode from the StartSmart interface - but I see no way to do
that with mine.

Hmm, just thought of something. Unless of course SmartStart and
NeroVisionExpress2 will not give you the option of running Recode if
it does not detect a DVD burner. That is true for Nero ROM - it never
gave the choice to burn to a DVD if it could not detect a DVD burner
with its wizard. I am currently using the demo on my desktop without
a burner just to try out the software. Hmmmm, can anyone confirm
this?

Addendum: Nevermind, Recode still won't appear as an option even if
a DVD burner is attached.

You need a seperate serial for NeroVisionExpress2. In order to use Recode

So what do you need to buy to get Recode to work after the demo
expiration date?

The only thing I can find on their website is the DVD video
plugin for 25 dollars. I'd be disappointed if you had to buy
Nero 6 and then have to pay an additional 30 dollars to be able
to burn DVD's with Recode. Anyone know for sure what you need
to pay to have Recode work?

I have installed Nero 6 on my laptop also, which only has a DVD-Rom.
Start smart gives me the applications/Recode option, although the DVD-CD option (top right) is not there.
The Start/Programs/Nero/NeroVision Express 2/Nero Recode is there too.
Are you sure you have installed all the modules?

I managed to tackle this problem in a very odd way; I had installed Nero 6.0 plus the NeroVision package from my original CD and entered the serial number for both packages. However, some of the NeroVision components such as Recode didn't show and when I ran it, it gave the licence error. NeroVision Express itself said no MPEG2 encoder was installed (which would explain why Recode wouldn't be available).

What I did was the following: I deinstalled all Nero software, then ONLY installed Nero 6.0 itself. I then downloaded the NeroVision Express update (update package 2, to be precise) and installed that - it doesn't need the original files to be there. Recode worked after that. Installed the Nero update (update package 1) afterwards without any problems being introduced, so now all's working at 6.0.11.

I tried this on two computers and it seems to be working. Strange.
